Dreamcast I think was the point when 3D visuals were consistently acceptable. No tearing, acceptable draw distances, decent textures and solid frame rates. Also the introduction of 640 x 480 as standard rather than 320 x 240.
I'd say 16 bit was when we got that consistently for 2D (no flickering etc) but 8bit games have aged better than most 32bit 3D titles.

Many sixth generation games still hold up to this day. God of War II, for starters.
I think this needs to be separated into 2D and 3D:
2D: 4th gen. 2D games from this gen still look great and convey what the artists set out to do. They could benefit from some extra effects and res, but still more than playable.
3D: I would go with last gen. 5th gen games have aged terribly, 6th gen games vary and although you do get some nice looking games they often have very obvious cut backs that can break you out of immersion.
Out of all generations I feel the console that looks the worst is PS1. The N64 games still look amazing to me being in the same gen, but I have a hard time tolerating a lot of PS1's blocky graphics with a few exceptions, ...But to this day I find myself going back to the NES to replay games like Crystalis, Contra, Super Mario 3, Punch Out, Ninja Gaiden, and Dragon Warrior/Quest IV.
SNES without a doubt.
NES generally was a little too blocky to confidently represent things, so everything tended to look a little abstract.
SNES was good enough to have high quality sprites resulting in games like LttP, the DKC games, etc. And every generation after that has games that still look fine graphically. Yes, that includes the N64, thanks to games like BK/BT, OoT/MM, and Pokemon Snap, all of which still look fine to me.
For 2D, the fourth. For 3D, the sixth. The fifth generation has aged horribly in my opinion.
