Gen 6 still impresses me when viewed via optimal connections. PS2/Gamecube/Dreamcast/OG Xbox hooked up to HDT via component or VGA(Dreamcast) look very clean and very sharp. You can sometimes notice the low polygon counts or the basic textures but it still looks very pleasing unless the game was never good looking even back then. Rayman 2 on PS2 looks amazing to this day(via component or BC PS3).
To be honest I still like some gen 2 games but they're graphically too simplistic to even know what you're looking at without the manual usually.
To me, gen 3 (8 bit) is when the graphics are good enough to really enjoy the game, and 16 bit is the point at which I have no complaints about the visuals if it's well made.
Really, I feel many (if not most) games in gen 5 are the only ones that have aged so poorly as to be difficult to revisit, as that first generation of 3D often had terrible controls and hideous textures.
The issue is... With 2d games, due to how their art direction is, they look perfectly acceptable to me even from the NES days... With 3d games though... Not so much!
So 2d = Nes
3d = GC

Pretty much, except switch SNES for NES.
Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

3rd gen (NES, SMS). Great retro look. Anything before that looks far too dated to me.
4th gen still looks nice.
5th gen polygonal graphics aged poorly.
6th gen still looks nice.
7th gen (PS360) still impresses me a bit.
I don't really view visuals like this. There are games from each gen that age well, just like how there are some that age poorly. It's one reason why SNES games have aged better (overall) than games from the 64/ps1/saturn era. Better aesthetics, as well as the fact that finely-done 2d ages nicely. Then, you also have games like Metroid Prime, Wind Waker, SMT: Nocturne/DDS, etc. which are from the ps2 era and have aged better than games from the 7th gen. It all depends on the games style, not its generation.
