I think they have to pick someone who is young enough to do a series, and with really good talent levels. To achieve that, they probably have to drop the exact 'look' of the video game character.
I think Joseph Gordon Levitt could make the role his own :

He can obviously do the stunts, and his range is immense.
Wahlberg, Renner, Dalton, Butler, etc don't really fit, imo. I would have said Fillion, but he's too old and out of shape, now. Back in his Firefly days he would have been amazing. Pratt would be a great pick, but I think he's already turned down the role, maybe hoping to be the next actual Indiana Jones. I think James Roday could do an alright job, but I dunno if he has the star power to drive the film. Cooper might work, though.
Regardless, pretty sure this film's in dev hell right now alongside so many other attempted game adaptations. Doubt we'll see it at this point.

Samuel L Jackson.

Chris Pratt or Nathan Fillion.
I favor Nathan Fillion myself but either would be fine.

They already made several. They are even interactive. ;)
I doubt they will go for a big actor. Similar deals seems to have fallen through in the past so they will probably settle for someone like Dan Stevens or something lame like that.

Oh be quiet, I'm serious. This series is just screaming for a movie adaptation and yet Sony would rather continue working with Adam Sandler or go make Ghostbusters to the ire of many Ghostbusters fans.
Makes me worry we might never get a TLoU film adaptation neither.
