I'd say they spread themselves too thin. I was really hoping to grab TMNT but with the cap I won't be grabbing it until they remove it. That said I do hope in the future they retain themselves to being split in two or remaining as a single team, I really don't want to see resources being spread too think when they could be making one good game after another instead of 2/5 good games.

Its not a movie license.First because TMNT are originally a comic book and this game is not based on any existing movie or comic as far as I know(story-wise).

 

But yeah, like Inafune, they are taking too many projects.Much more than they can handle, and this is clearly showing in their work.

Isn't a rather harshly reviewed Legend of Korra game included in that "stellar track record"?

I'm personally not a fan of the studio. For all their technical ability, I think they desperately need people who can write and build a consistent and coherent experience. I expect their upcoming games to be criticized for being muddled and goofy.

Platinum has delivered some mediocre licensed games. (See Legend of Korra for example). It's hard to say exactly why. It could be that they just don't care as much. It could also be that they're forced to rush to meet a deadline (like when Out of the Shadows is released). It could also be that they're limited on budget.

It could also be they're spread too thin, but it's just one possible explanation.

Maybe, but when studios get in bed with Activision bad things tend to happen.

nostalgia wise,the tmnt game is cool, everything else though,not so cool.

rented it from redbox and beat it in 3 1/2 hrs. Most missions get repetitive ''grab object,take it here'', ''find this item,disable it''

Platinum doesn't have a stellar track record IMO. Bayonetta 1, 2, MGR and Vanquish were the exceptions not the rule. They have made bad and mediocre games like Madworld, Anarchy Reigns, Legend of Korra, Transformers Devastation and Star Fox Zero.

I'm not surprised to see this one being a poor game, but I did expect it to be better than it is.

I think it's two things:

1) platinum has small teams that are able to produce small budget games really quick with average quality that publishers like Activision love as it's low risk, low investment and possibly decent returns.

2) platinum charges very little, but still enough to make decent profit on to help towards the bigger projects.
