Forums - Sony - Damage coming to GT5 "very, very soon"...

This line bugs the shit out of me:

“We’ve had a lot of discussions with the manufacturers and although at the beginning they hated the idea of deformation, now they’re slowly coming around to it. We’ve still got a few to convince, but we will. Expect deformation in the very near future: very, very soon.”

Lemme see here... I've been bashing the shit out of cars in the PGR and Forza series for years but Polyphony is still in discussions with manufacturers about it? What manufacturers? Daewoo? Every manufacturer worth a damn is already in other games and they already let gamers beat their products to a pulp.

In summary, I call shenanigans.

The line is consistent with what they've been saying for years, though.  I don't know what it is about their agreements with manufacturers, but you'd think that by now, one of the manufacturers would have stepped forward and said "I don't know what they're talking about, we're fine with our cars being shown as damaged when the driver irresponsibly slams them together."

Other game companies buy the rights to use the cars in their games, in there contract they have the rights to destroy the cars. Phony Digital has received the rights to use the cars for free, with this contract they must keep the cars intact. Based on the fact that Phony Digital does not pay for the rights to destroy cars they must ask permission to do so.

Out of 700 cars there are lots of car companies that do not have their cars in any other game and may not allow there cars to be smashed, they may refuse to even sign a contract to allow their cars to be damaged even if Phony Digital offered to pay some cash.

It could also be that some companies do not care if there newer cars are smashed up, but old classics and concept cars maybe another story.

damage was the only thing forza fans used to play down gt5.

now damage is coming hopefully they will stop thier bickering.

gran turismo is the best driving simulator

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

1/ about the damage ("DEFORMATIONS" is different from car destruction),
I believe it when I see it.

2/ about the gameplay, GT5 (prologue or full) need also to implement a good interaction system when 2 cars hit together. The "bumping effect" is just VERY last gen. I hope they will deal with this in the final release.

Why would a car company come out and say that? They couldn't care less what a small licensee is saying unless they're directly attacking the company, which Polyphony is not.

There are still things I prefer about Forza. The game progression, for one. GT is agonizingly slow while Forza gets you into decent races and cars within 3-4 hours.

And I'll reserve judgement on GT's online until I get a chance to play it. It has some stiff competition in Forza.

Each game has its strengths and it's not as if one is completely dominant compared to the other. GT shines in some areas, Forza in others.

For GT 1 & 2 you could.

There was this Suzuki car (fastest car in game) that would barely turn but have insane speed and it was one of the cars where you can just ride the walls.

The Pikes Peak car as only in GT2, was highly nerfed for GT3.

To get the Pikes Peak car, you'd allready won pretty much.

4 years!!!!!!! WTF. Please tell me he is joking. Prologue has quite a few problems htat need addressing. Next year Forza 3 is out and I'm pretty sure they'll up the graphics as well as damage system. At the mo the graphics is awesome in GT5P but the gameplay is some way behind.

This series is in dire need of damage the game just is not a driving simulator without it, crashing into other cars or the walls to get around the corner's faster, which is what i did on GT2, is why i gave up on the series as it wasnt what it was ment to be and i was rewarded for doing everything wroung. This will be the single best thing to happen to the series when it is implemented.

Also in GT2 the rubberband AI was the worst ever, they would literally stop for you to catch up to them, i dont know what it has been like since then but if it was simular in the latest games it needs to be removed.

Then it will be an amazing game.
