Why would you be entitled to play Oculus games with any other headset?

because this is the PC, what would be the point in Oculus then? just get PSVR then

If you want to play Oculus developed games you need a headset that supports Oculus platform. Why would Oculus Studios develop games for the HTC Vive?

That's the thing, they don't have to, the devices are so similair modders can get them working no problem and they have to include DRM to make sure you're using THEIR VR headset and not another one that can just as readily play their software.

Also I would argue Oculus isn't a platform, PC is the platform, Oculus is merely a preheripal.

It's because the tech is not standardized what so ever and won't be for the near future. There will be a time when a steam-like vendor offers a one stop shop for the big VR players. That time just isn't yet.

I'm already locked out of Move games when I don't have PSMove and I'm locked out of Kinect games when I don't have a Kinect.

You buy Move for Motion Control games on Playstation, You buy Kinect for Motion games on Xbox. Neither device has a competitor preheripal that accomplishes the same thing on their system with exclusive content to it.

Just as these devices get access to all content on their systems that require that preheripals features so should VR devices on PC be able to play any software their hardware is capable of.

You shouldn't have to buy an Oculus and a VIVE and a whatever else to play all VR content on PC just as you don't have to buy a Kinect and a EAKINECT and a UBIKINECT to get all Motion Camera content on the Xbox.

An example of other companies not doing shit like this would be Rockband and Guitar Hero, both games can use each others preheripals.

Singstar can use any Microphone compatible with the console, you don't need an officail Sony Mic. etc etc

Oculus is a private platform, exactly like Steam or Windows or Android or ios or PS4 or linux. They're all platforms and all have exclusive content. It's their right to have. That's why the clever developer develops multiplatform games.

It's not the platform holder's responsibility to make sure that all content running on their platform also runs on every other platform.

tagging to see peoples views on this later on.

Like someone else here said though, I've seen a video from this youtuber before, clickbait is his middle name.

Comparing a VR device to a Digital Storefront seems odd... especially considering hardware that can be used on Steam can be used on Origin and any other application the hardware is capable of running.

What makes Oculus a platform? It's a piece of hardware not a Platform, if you're going to release your games on Windows they should work with all Windows Devices that can run it, same as monitors, wheels, joysticks, gamepads, fightsticks etc, you shouldn't purposefully lock out certain hardware just because. There's no games that ONLY RUN ON NVIDIA graphics cards, there's no games that ONLY WORK ON INTEL cpu's, there's no games that ONLY WORK WITH LOGITECH WHEELS, there's no games that can ONLY USE XBO CONTROLLERS, no games that REQUIRE A SAMSUNG MONITOR. Just as their should not be any games that require an Oculus over a Vive or vice-versa.

Windows is an Open Platform and Windows IS the platform, a VR Headset is not a platform, it has no OS.

They are accessories, yes Oculus developers should not have to ensure Vive works with their software but they shouldn't purposefully lock out the Vive because they know it works.

Examples that show consumer friendliness do not declare everything else as bad. There are certain PC configurations that only run specific and exclusive games. They're called consoles.

OR does have its own API(software) which is why OR games have to be modified to run on other devices. Their store is their platform. Windows is not an open platform and neither is Steam. PC alone has so many different platforms that it's ridiculous to call it open. Ubisoft games won't run without uplay. All games have to use it which means they're exclusive to it.

Get over it. Just because PC gamers are used to having a fix or a crack for everything does not mean there are no exclusivities. There never was a time where games weren't bound to a specific platform. There is absolutely no ethical reason to not produce your own exclusive content.

Consoles have their own Operating System.

Steam and Uplay are not platforms they are storefronts for other platforms (Windows,Linux,Mac). Steam and Uplay are also free software, not very expensive hardware.

Oculus isn't a platform, if it wants exclusive software it should have exclusive features over the Vive that makes running its games impossible on the Vive or they should have developed a System.

Unlike a PC or a Console the Oculus is NOT A SYSTEM.

Why does it has to be a SYSTEM to have exclusive content? Why is it ok for storefronts to have exclusive content? Why is it ok for expensive systems to have exclusive content?

Storefronts don't force you to shell out money on something that you already have but isn't of their particular brand, storefronts are also free and don't impose any arbritrary hardware restrictions.

Systems such as an Xbox or a PS4 are the only devices capable of playing their own software and provide their own OS.

Creating software for the Oculus is fine, if that software only works on the Oculus that is also fine, they are not obligated to make it work on anything else. But upon discovering your software works on another piece of hardware for the Platform you are developing it for and then spending time purposefully making sure it won't work is not fine.

Locking content to systems is ok because only those systems can run their own software.

Locking content to devices is not ok because other devices can be used with that software.
