Forums - General Discussion - Banned from Neogaf for having a different opinion. Am I wrong?

-Disclaimer-

I Don't want to talk about GG here, and I won't enter a discussion about it.  I realise that the content of my NeoGaf posts are in regard to that, but what I wish to discuss is if that people think this was a fair ban or not.  I wish is chat about if:

  • In other peoples opinion I pushed too hard on the subject
  • It appeared that I was being very mean to anyone involved and or trolling.
  • I deserved a ban because I broke a written rule.
With that said, let us begin.
-----------------------------------------------
My Username on the board was 'Dodgykebaab' and if you wish to read for yourself what was written, then you can access that here:
To start at the end, I recived a ban on NeoGaf because I said that I beleived GG was many different conversations all at once, covering a few different topics.   I never called anyone any names, I never swore and I even walked away from the debate when I sensed that it was about to turn ugly.  This is what i got. (right click and open image in new tab for fullsize)
But the path to this ban was the following:
I think this was quite a claim and normal thing to say, so let's move on.
Again, I see nothing wrong with what I said here.  Again, no one is being targeted, there is no anger or bile and I think this is just a normal conversation.
So now it looks like someone may have missed my first post in the forum, so I repeat it to in order to make sure people are totally sure where I am coming from.
This is the point I walked away from the thread.  I've said what I think and covered my thoughts on it.  It looks like things are about to get heated so I pulled away, made my last post, turned my computer off and went to bed.
The next day I go to Neogaf to find I was banned for life, because "I'm not going to fit in".
Now please feel free to tell me if I'm wrong and why, but this seems to me to be ludicrous that I'd be banned for having a different opinion.  Again, I don't feel that I harrased anyone or behaved badly.  I didn't swear, and when things looked like they might turn ugly I walked away.
I am wrong, or was this a gross abuse of power from a mod?

Really?  I've seen people talking about all sorts of topics, and I've never seen someone banned just for a different opinion.  I'll admit I'm more of a long time lurker here, but I've talked to people about other political and social topics that were quite touchy and so long as it never got into a name calling fight people seem to stay here.

For real? A forum where discussion is banned?

Maybe you not being able to go back there isn't such a bad thing after all...

I think you're right.  I'm better off away from there.

AFAIK Gaf mods will ban at will in regards to GG. So... unlucky?

GAF is a hive mind. Especially when it comes to topics like GamerGate and politics. If you don't share the opinion of the hive mind, don't bother setting a foot into any thread about those topics if you value your GAF account in any way. It can only end badly for you.

To be honest like i said to Ka-Pi96, I'd rather not have it in that case.  I'd rather post in places where people can at the very least agree to disagree.  I actually remember disagreing with you on something (Can't remember what) here on Chartz.  But here we are talking to each other normally, which is just how it should be.

You are spot on though, if you don't agree with the hive mind; your out.  Not a good website.

As LudicrousSpeed said you're crazy to go there for politics or topics like GG. I like gaf for its sales threads particularly Japanese sales. Even in them you have a hive mind of super negative posters who want to do nothing but go on about how the market is dead but such is life. The OT for games are good and the hype threads for things like e3 are good. No forum is perfect. Not chartz not gaf.

I hope you learned your lesson about internet fights.

Any examples?

Remember that time, when someone posted porn in the forums in every thread, good times.
