Forums - Nintendo - WiiU's Pokken outsold PS4's Street Fighter V at retail in the US, too.

Which game do you prefer?

Pokken Tournament 256 68.09%

Street Fighter 4 64 17.02%

None. 56 14.89%

Total:376

Street fighter 5 has sold 1.4m to retailers as of the start of this quarter. What has Pokken shipped?

Vgchartz has Pokken at 0.68 and that's slightly overtracked in America.  So has Pokken really outsold Street fighter?  Maybe in the USA but I have serious doubts WW.

I would say Street Fighter V proves a lack of benefits for third party devs to make games exclusive.

Removing Sony's money, and releasing an unfinished game (in 2018+) on multiple consoles wouldn't neccesarily have been better.
If it didn't do great on PS4 or PC, it wouldn't have looked better on Xbox One and WiiU.

Better make that assessment based on games that don't have problems or controversy surrounding them at launch.

How about Sunset Overdrive?

As stupid as that's sounds, the wiiu actually has a decent fighter genre audience thanks to smash. Also SNES loyalty maybe would off helped shift a few copies.

Lmao, no it doesn't. It has a decent Smash audience thanks to Smash. It sounds stupid because it is stupid. I love Street Fighter, but it would've died on Wii UUnless it were exclusive, in which case it would do better for the sales of the two other fighting games on the Wii U, Tekken and Injustice, than it would for itself. Smash is not a fighting game, and Smash players statistically do not play fighting games.

They play other competitive action games, like Pokken.

If Nintendo wants to get fighting game players on their platform, they need an actual fighting game exclusive. Not a party brawler like Smash. Not a competitive action game like Pokken. They need a Street Fighter. They need a Tekken. Or, more realistically, they need Nintendo vs. Capcom. The bridge. Nintendo roster in a fighting game box.

Instead, it died on the PS4 ;)

SF sold 1.4 Million according to capcom. In what way can Pokken outsell SF?

I was about to mention that. Maybe Europe takes a big piece of SFV's market, and (since the Wii U userbase is so low there) it's very little for Pokken? Maybe it's digital numbers?

In any case, Pokken seems to be undertracked some way or another. It should be much closer, or maybe past, 1 million units by now.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Taking VGChartz's numbers .... what a big mistake you did there.

No no, 1.4 million was confirmed by Capcom.

Sell in: Shipment from publisher to retail store
Sell through: Sale from retailer to customer

The two terms are not interchangeable.
Also, all units sold in may not be sold through.

Pokemons not struggling though.....

Maybe Street Fighter wouldn't be struggling if it was on WiiU, like Pokken.

There are more people playing Ryu on wiiu than ps4 in the US so i wouldnt be surprised

"This puts into perspective which is the bigger franchise."

Are you joking? No one ever had any question which was the bigger franchise.

Agreed. SF is much bigger than pokken (not to be confused with Pokemon)
