Forums - Nintendo - Why did Nintendo chose not to implement a system wide achievement system? Stubborn or missed the boat?

I don't think Nintendo has ever been the type to follow trends. They always do their own thing.

It's a bit of a shame really because a game like Star Fox Zero would probably get a lot less negative press if there was an achievement system in place for you to have reasons to go back and replay it over and over, but when it's locked into a single games save file there is little to encourage players to slug through it all again and again, I know achievements are a little thing.. but still if you say you did X Y and Z in a video game it's far easier to show that fact off with a platinum or having gotten the icon for the game on the X360.

I know peoples views are polarized on achievements though but even still you can effectively turn them off on the X360/Ps4 as well, just kill all the notifications for them ever popping up so you can ignore them, but for those achievement hunters out there, Nintendo not having a system in place for such a player to enjoy it just ends up costing them sales imo. and like a few others said, it gives the impression of stubbornness as though they are not acknowledging that another company has come up with a fantastic idea to rope people back in for more games, it's a shame.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Maybe Nintendo though it was a fad and people would stop caring about achievements or just them being stubborn. An achievement system is a win/win for all, If you don't care about it you just carry on and ignore it and if you like them you can go and get 100% is all the games you have.

Isn't their sticker thing essentially an achievement system? Heck, I say its better than achievements because you can use it on miiverse... I will say that its only downside is that u have to get into the game in order to access the stickers so if you didn't have to do that, I would take stickers over achievements anyday

i think they had too much this family friendly image in mind, they probably saw it as too much competitive

I think it's just a matter that it didn't seem necessary. I guess getting trophies is nice, but def not needed to enjoy a game. The game itself should interest you in discovering and completing it, not trophies. That's probably why they don't use them

I honestly don't care either way.

Nintendo probably just saw achivements, and just didn't bother to implement them, thinking a large majority wouldn't care at all.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Achievements are a dumb gimmick.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Stubbornness. Fans loved achievements on Xbox 360 and PlayStation fans pined for something like it. Ergo Trophies in 2008. Sony actually listened to their fans.

Because achievements are a shallow way to increase playtime and a great way to break immersion.

But they'll fuck that all up with My Nintendo rewards, so don't you worry your pretty little head.
