Well I mean the last time Nintendo did technically launch a home console outside of the fall season was the Nintendo 64 which launched in Japan in June of 1996 (actually they were aiming for a spring '96 launch after delaying past holiday '95).

The N64 was really formally first shown with games at the Shoshinkai Show (precursor to Space World) in November of 1995.

So that's basically seven months from actual unveil to launch.

It's a good thing for Sony as I got sick of waiting and bought a PS4.
As a long time Nintendo fan I expect delays. I would have a heart attack if Nintendo actually met a release date.

Uncharted 4, Horizon, Gran Tourismo, Everybodies Golf, Gravity Rush 2 the ridiculous situation with Last Guardian... Sony aren´t shy of delays either. And how many times and years did they have shown off their VR device? Get some perspective before spouting hypocritical things.

so why is skipping E3 such a big deal then? basically you just said NX will be overshadowed regardless of when its revealed.

Because that's the time all gamers take two or three days to see what's happening. I don't own a PS4, for the most part I don't care about the Playstation brand, I never once searched Playstation in a google search engine, but I do watch the Playstation E3 event. That's the time frame everyone who is a gamer sits down and sees what's going on in the gaming world.

E3 isnt the be all end all of gaming news.

Gamescom is in mid-August, Pax Prime is 2 weeks after that, Tokyo game show is 2 weeks after that.

Nintendo can have their own reveal in August then attend each of these events which essentially gives NX about 1.5 months of nonstop info.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I don't really care about the NX being/not being at E3 to "combat" Sony or whatever. There's no combating Sony, they're going to win this generation and win it easily, E3 is just going to be a coronation party for them (PS4 Neo, PS4 VR, PS4 outselling everyone, Uncharted 4 sold x million copies, blah, blah, blah). That train left the station a long time ago.

I'd like for it to be there because Nintendo fans have been asked to be patient for a long fucking time here, last year's E3 was shit too, so it's more just out of personal frustration. I mean you sure as hell are not giving us much to play on the Wii U, and that's to be expected, but throw us a little bone of info at least.

No, I think a full reveal with all information coming fresh is far better for impact, only those on forums are desperate for information because of the nature of being on a forum. You want your bone of information watch Zelda at E3 as a version of it will be on NX.

1. Yes, we hold breath for PS4/XB1 also. Bought PS4/XB1 were released at holiday season, NX will release one quarter later, I am sure that Nintendo would do same thing like MS done if NX would come this holiday season but NX coming 4 monts later. Currently nobody care about Nintendo because they don't have nothing interesting, but when they have to show new hardware or great new games everybody again will care, it so simple.

2. What are you talking about!? I mention Wii/XB1/PS4 like example of changed time compared to previous generation when consoles were announced 1.5 year before launched. Like I wrote, Wii U was reviled 1.5 year before launch and totally failed, PS4/XB1 had reviled 9-6 monts before launch and they had great revile na great launch, NX will probably have revile same like XB1 around 6 monts before launch.

1:Now you're essentailly making no sense. When they announce NX 6 months before release people are going to care?.... Doubtful, I think a lot of people will be wrapped up in how awesome that VR commercial or that PS4 Neo commercial looked that's releasing soon over a company who's consoles they haven't cared about in around (if not over) a decade released in half a year. Remember, the marketing for the Neo and Morpheus will be in FULL effect by then, and that's not even counting an Xbox One revision.

2: I'm talking about NX not having a year until release. Saying a console doesn't need a year and a half of advertisement doesn't really apply when there isn't a year and a half to advertise it....

1. You are one making no sense. People cared about XB1 when was revile 6 months before launch. Of Course that people will care, people always care about new hardware and new game for that hardware. Most of those commercial of VR, PS4 Neo...will be at E3, then will be bang for those products, but Nintendo it will have bang with one presentation with hardware and games, same like PS4/XB1 had.

2. I talking about examples like PS4/XB1, you constantly ignoring fact that XB1 is revealed 6 months before launch and had good revile and launch.

And then what? Hold their breath and hope people care? The live conference is losing relavence sure, but do you think that time frame is loosing relavence to gamers? All the people who are dropping out of an actual conference are still holding events. I agree the on stage stuff is pointless, the digital events have proven that. But it is still the time all gamers tend to lend the gaming world their ears.

What do you mean and then what? They reveal the console when E3 hype has calmed down and where they can be the center of attention.

Revealing it during E3 means they potentially risk getting lost in the shuffle of PS4 Neo, Xbox 1.5/Slim, PSVR/other headsets & all the big holiday titles that cant be played on NX.

With Nintendo's current situation they cant risk having the new console reveal getting outshined by all the other announcements happening.

Totally agree.

Before E3, with a end of the year release would have been better.

But since they pushed the NX to march 2017, it's better to wait after E3.

In any case, doing their own show to reveal you big products, like every big company does nowadays (Microsoft, Playstation, Apple, Tesla, Google, Xbox etc) is a better way to be in the media cycle. With an E3 revelation, Nintendo would share the spotlight with other hardware and software, some would argue that the spotlight would still be bigger. But they're wrong

imo, They want to launch with a consistent variety of software, and if they were to market the NX at E3 it would take away from potential Zelda U sales. Nintendo decided let E3 be about Zelda, and then next year launching the NX with a large amount of software would ultimately boost sales.

Do something NOW. I don't care if it's release more WIi U games, or simply show some NX games but do SOMETHING. While the gaming world is moving forward with their consoles, and showing games, and upgraded hardware, and virtual reality, and price drops, and 3rd party partnerships  what is Nintendo doing? Showing us the worse version of an upcoming game announced two years prior.... Why?

Theres trailers of Zelda U from back in 2012.

Its 2016... its been 4 years since they announced it.
