Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo *needs* an extra 6 months to achieve optimal launch timing

I'm not so sure about that. The best sales the Wii U ever experienced were in the first 6 months due to when it was released. It would have sold much worst out of the gate if it were released in march instead of holiday.

I think you missed what I meant. Same launch day, but more titles early on.

While the time leading up to March 2013 was okay, thereafter WiiU really fell off a cliff when there wasn't anything really promising on the near horizon. If the WiiU hit higher highs, not quite such low lows before PS4/X1 introduction - it would have unquestionably done much better.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

And after an optimal launch, they will have still mid droughts. The launch can be solved, but they clearly have 0 effective planning for software schedules.

We know that can be fixed if they actually make good use of the final WiiU drought and don't get lazy with their planning.

Add on top of that the fact that they mostly only seem interested in dumbed-down versions of classic franchises and 2D platformers.  It wouldn't matter if half of the Wii U's library released on day one; they're still just plain making games that the majority of gamers aren't interested in.  (And I know people will argue this fact, but the Wii U's sales are absolute proof of this concept.  If it weren't true, people would be buying it.  Period.)

Agreed. To end playing 3D World and DK it doesn't make a difference to be released sooner or later.

You're wrong. People just aren't too keen about buying a console just for Nintendo games. WiiU's timing and other bad decisions about the WiiU always were the greater issue at hand. The 1st party games are undeniably good and have a proven track record of mass appeal. If Nintendo were 3rd party, many more people would buy Nintendo games - they would be fully capable of crushing the likes of EA, Ubisoft, Square, and Activision if they wanted to badly enough.

Everything else exceedingly great, good, and unannounced that we were supposed to get in the later years of WiiU got moved to NX. Just about everything left for WiiU this past year has this quality of being taken out of the oven too soon. Pokken Tournament isn't even 720p. TPHD isn't nearly as impressive as it should be. Star Fox Zero is Star Fox Zero. Mario Tennis is missing features. Animal Crossing: amiibo festival is straight up dull. Even Splatoon shipped as a not-yet-finished game.

When Nintendo puts out an ambitious new Zelda, 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Bros - all gamers want in. But the fact they're on a console such as the WiiU isn't just enviable, it's pitiful. These great IPs deserve a better platform. The pitiful platform by and large gets pitiful games. Newer IPs capable of the same greatness deserve a better platform. Everyone knows it and that's what NX is *supposed* to be. But in the me

Sure...

Oh, becuase the long droughts of the Wii U are good planning right? Ah, no! everything is part of a master plan!

Oh, because the NX is the same thing as the Wii U. Everything indicates that this time they do have a plan.

Well great, the NX will have an awesome launch line-up. In the long run however, it won't matter, as that won't solve the problem of software droughts.

If the NX becomes their sole platform after its release, droughts will be a thing of the past.

I'll always beleive that the Wii U's library is underwhelming, however you're right that people not wanting to buy the system just to play these games is also an issue.  I agree that they would sell way more if their games were available on Steam.  People get pretty up in arms whenever anyone suggests such a thing, but it economically makes sense.  I barely know anyone with a Wii U, but basically everyone I know would buy stuff like Smash and Zelda if they had the chance.  A system is just not worth the money when you only want a handful of games.

Releasing the Wii U 6 months later is nit the same as Wii U games releasing 6 months earlier! MK8 would still release in may, Splatoon would still release in may, and so on and so forth.

Everything like missing the holidays because they need more time to have a solid launch line-up, delaying an already delayed game developed for the Wii U to be the big launch game on the new platform, and finally left your current console in its biggest drought. Yeah, a plan...
