"Never mind the fact that maybe some things are standardized by a reason: because the fucking work."

"When you sacrifice playability for innovation simply for innovation's own sake, you are doing it horribly wrong. The question should always be: 'Is this more efficient or user-friendly than just pushing a button?' If the answer is 'no', then don't fucking do it!".

"Nintendo has a habit of making things more inconvenient for no other reason than just show off; demonstrate tech that's been well demonstrated by now."

"Innovation (when required) is fantastic. But doing it for no reason other than to do it, doing it in ways that makes games less enjoyable to interact with, doing it without any sort of restraint is simply a bad way to make games.

Couldn't agree more with that episode.

That said: I still like the tablet controller of the Wii U. Fits comfortably in your hands and all sticks/buttons are good to reach and responsive. Too bad that the unnecessary touchscreen in the middle of the controller drove the costs up and reduced the battery time immensely.

I want the way that is the most comfortable and responsive. I'll take refinement over being innovative for the sake of being innovative any day of the week.

Fore me, all they'd have to do is add-in those scrollwheel shoulder buttons that they got a patent for.  That would make things like item switching and zooming(when paired with gyro controls) a breeze.

The problem with saying that Nintendo has never had a normal controller because of the innovations seems to infer that no controller is normal. The DualShock had built-in rumble and dual analog sticks so that must have not been normal. Same with the original Xbox controllers with their weird black and white buttons.

Gamecube's controller and Wii U's pro controller say hi.

but the gamecube is an evolution of the n64 controller, not a normal controller faor the time, and pro controller is an alternative for those who don't want to use the gamepad.

No. The GameCube's controller is Nintendo's version of Sony's Dual Shock.

That they named the right analog stick "C" doesn't make the controller an evolution to the N64 controller. It's pretty much their response to the Dual Shock's layout, which was an evolution of the SNES controller. It had most features that came before it, which were now standard, with Nintendo making it's own spin on them by messing with buttons ergonomics.

well I guess technically you are right in saying that.

I think when people refer to a normal controller is they basically me a xbox or playstation where they just evolve over time to be more comfortable.

Well, by those standards, Duelshock 4 isn't normal either, it has a touchpad..

I get your point for the thread but at the same time, I'm assuming you know what people mean when they say normal too.

In case you don't:

People aren't saying don't add new features ect, people just don't want the main focus to be said new features. They don't want the focal point to be some controller innovation / gimmick (depending on what work you like)

I mean, yeah, Nintendo made innovations in controls, but I guess ergonomically, it felt natural with NES, SNES, and Gamecube.

When we mean "normal" I guess it means that we don't want a feature that is flat out gimmicky, like the motion controls of the Wiimote, or the touch screen of the gamepad, where the added feature can end up being a hinderance with games.

Motion controls is mixed with a lot of people, and while I like the gamepad a lot, the cost Nintendo put to make it definitely wasn't worth it, since most games didn't take advantage of the gamepad in amazing ways.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Just because people are asking for a new controller doesnt mean that nintendo always had a normal controller. I understand that nintendo likes to be innovative but why not give people what they want? I want a cartridge based normal controller console by nintendo. I understand not everyone wants that but it would be a better sale than gimmicks imo.

Nintendo Never had no controller at all.

Because that system doesn't exist.

They basically took the DS layout and switched the analogue and face button positions in the WiiU Pro controller. Good to know Nintendo finally came around on the symmetrical stick setup. Now Xbox is the oddball.
