Forums - Sony - Why Did Sony Not Lock Down Battlefield 1 Marketing/Exclusive Content?

IIRC Microsoft marketed Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Battlefield 4 in the same year. I guess Sony didn't want to bear the burden of marketing this, Infinite Warfare, the new Destiny expansion, AND possibly Titanfall 2. All of this on top of the possible FPS that may come out of left field during their presentation. They need to diversify, and marketing too many FPS goes against that.

Half of the comments are like "it will sell better on PS4 regardless so they don't need the deal" which is just a huge flawed logic.

You don't only get deals with other companies if their product will sell the most on your device then. That statement doesn't make any sense. Marketing isn't only about selling the most but about selling more as without it and building/retaining the best possible relationships with the other companies.

Otherwise Sony wouldn't get any deals from now on and MS wouldn't have gotten some deals last gen.

Sony just has already enough deals and getting deals for two games which are pretty much the biggest enemies to each other wouldn't make too much sense either. Or would Activision like to see how Sony would try to push BF1 (which would also cost some CoD sales)?

Battlefront was a little bit different, that was more about getting the Star Wars game.

So Battlefield 1 looks really good. A lot better than COD IW but I've been wondering why sony didn't go after the exclusive content and marketing for the new Battlefield. Star Wars Battlefront did very well over the holidays on PlayStation and they also had a pretty big push for battlefield hardline so I was pretty shocked when I didn't see the PlayStation logo at the beginning of the trailer. The reasons i could think of is that either MS made a deal awhile back or that Sony doesn't care for battlefield since they have Cod.

Maybe they decided to skip it due to having COD and the backlash of Battlefield 4, Battlefield Hardline and SW Battlefront.

Honestly, who could blame them?  People have complained about all 3 of those games from graphics over gameplay, horrible DLC practices, buggy releases and so on.

Who could of predicted the dramatic turn around and great love the next Battlefield would get?  Pretty amazing off of one trailer.  Seems MS putting their logo at the end of the trailer paid off as it might be one of the reasons for Battlefields new found love.  It will be interesting to see if it results in increased sales or simply just positive PR and praise.

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

Marco....

Make sense to be with MS cause of EA Access, they already have an established relationship.
Besides EA have been known since the PS1 era to force pubs to not support other brands or consoles if that brand competes with EA's interest.
Sony's position with EA is that they will always compete with EA, regardless of EA liking it or not.
