Nintendo cares about 3rd party just like Sony and Microsoft because it's more profitable to do nothing and get a cut from a game you invested nothing in. Money is money at the end of the day and free money with little to no work is the best! :)

I think nintendo honestly sees 3rd party as competition for themselves.

Why sell 1 game from the competition, and get 10%? of the cut.

When you could sell them one of your own games, and get 100% of the profit.

Thats why I pointed out, nintendo sees themselves as a software company.

Sony and Microsoft, run their Xbox & playstation like they are hardware manufacturers

(they live off of 3rd party cuts & service fee's).

This doesnt mean Nintendo dont want 3rd party on their systems, just they dont bother jumping through hoops the way Sony might.

Bringing in 3rd parties will sell more hardware and having an inflated userbase from this will increase sales of the first party titles also. Along with 3rd party games printing you money for zero effort.

"An increased need for ROM chips above and beyond the usual level required for 3DS game production has been touted by some as possible evidence of a return to cartridge-based game delivery for Nintendo."

Nintendo suddenly starts ordering many many times the usual amount of ROM chips, like those used for 3DS game cartridiges.

And your saying thats nothing that alludes to anything not already in the Wii and Wii U?

Obviously it's going to be above the usual. They are ordering 3DS cards AND NX ROM, for the console itself. No where does it say "many many times." Nowhere does it use exponentials. You're seeing what you want to see.

So ROMs are cartridges?

ROMs aren't cartridges.

1) "Above and beyound, the usual."

Thats the same as saying many many times over normal amounts.

2) "They are ordering 3DS cards AND NX ROM, for the console itself."

The article makes it sound like they are sure the ROMs are for cartridges, not like system bios's.

ROM is memory thats written to only once, when its made.

And is never again written to. Thats why its called "Read only memory" (ROM).

And yes ROM is used in cartridges.

Even if it was just to get Japan 3rd party on board its worth it! Because wii u has zero support  handhelds sell good in Japan and 3ds still has Japan 3rd parties on board.

Yeah, but let's be honest, the majority of Japanese 3rd parties don't really sell consoles. The big ones like Square Enix and Capcom can but even those don't sell consoles like EA, 2K, Activision, Rockstar etc can, those are the ones the NX needs.

Having some third parties on board is better than none . And if they get some it will help sales and if they sell more they might be able to get more 3rd party on board!

This ^^^ Also there games aren't 100% profit as they still invest money in making them.

ROM is outdated way of thinking

They should be aiming for hybrid carts that have Read only space say 64gb and write space. This write space could be used for patches and updates.

Imagine the benefits
- Patches backed up on the cart, no tedious backup process required. Also the patches would be there for life so no fear of needing to redownload them and worry if they will be available in the future.
- No installs / uninstalls and reinstalls.
- No requirement to keep upgrading the console space the more games you get.
- Can plug it into any console with the updates on it, so when a console dies who gives a shit, u use it on another.

Does this mean we'll get NX Roms for download on the internet?? I am down!

If they go cartridges I'll buy their system even if its only game is Hotel Mario 2.

I love cartridges!

But it raises a lot of questions. How would patches work? Probably the same as CD's with paches being on a hard drive.

If they can make them cheaper than CDs that's great. But can they really?

It would lower the cost of the system since it doesn't need a disc drive, which is great.

If they go digital only I'm out of console gaming for good though.

I LOVE ICELAND!

I'm all for this. No install times ftw!
