Are Mobile Games #1

Yes 15 18.52%

No 66 81.48%

Great. Hoping to see more games on Google play store and Apple store.

People complaining are at least guilty of 1 of the following:

Paying to play online
Games with the real content being spared for DLCs and expansions
Buggy games with day one patches and beyond
Annual releases with incremental improvements if any
Games with promised future content (buy the game now and we'll give you the rest of it for free later, we promise!)

So please, spare us the wisdom. Just few days ago Miitomo was being hailed and championed. What changed now?

This is the sad reality, mobile gaming makes more money than the biggest games on dedicated consoles or PC. The casual market is just too great compared to the hardcore market.

Imo that still isn't the saddest part.  The casuals will forever be creating a world of games where there's no developers really developing on a consistent basis, but just trying to create a quick cash grab and then be done with it because of the lack of loyalty; also the lack of work even necessary to impress casuals.  You just have to have the right pop music appeal.

You're right, that is the saddest part. There are so many games like that on the Google store or the Apple one that are obviously made with little to no effort at all. While on the other hand, there are developers that put their hearts and souls into making the game they want to and don't even get close to as making as much profit as them and sometimes they have to close down because of this.

Does it really though? According to this data mobile games revenue has only beat PC and is still behind console. Considering the majority of the biggest games are console/pc releases rather than just one or the other they'd still be a long way ahead of mobile revenue, no?

Besides that there's also the quantity aspect of it. I've no doubt there are a huge number more mobile games released every year than console or pc, meaning the average spend per game is probably a fair bit higher on console/pc than mobile too.

True enough, but at this rate it seems like mobile will definitely do even better as time passes by. Also most mobile games don't cost as much as games on consoles or PC and can easily make a profit quicker and in turn makes more money for the developer.

Those damn casuals making McDonalds the nr 1 restaurant and Michael Bay movies and American Idol the nr 1 entertainment. Quality stuff will still be made.

Filthy casuals

The author of that article seems to be willfully misconstruing the data.

"The Computer Screen is the most lucrative on a global scale, with revenues of almost $32 billion. The vast majority of this will from (mid)core PC/MMO games, while casual webgame revenues continue to decline. This is followed closely by theEntertainment Screen (TV/Console) which will grow to $29.0 billion. The Personal Screen, or smartphones, is the fastest growing with a YoY growth rate of 23.7% and by 2018 will take the lead globally. The Floating Screen (tablets & handheld consoles) remains the least important gaming screen, with revenues of $11.6 billion, as handheld revenues are expected to plummet another 24% this year."

PC gaming revenue is at the top.  Mobile continues to devour handheld gaming revenue.

Confirmed! Easier to take money from fools than to make honest products!

Yeah, i kinda knew that. Nothing about mobile gaming/gouging is ok and if it ever replaces the gaming market its the day i leave it.

I know people that play mobile games, but they almost always spend nothing on them, maybe a few dollars a year. Actually be curious to meet the mobile equivalent of myself, someone who spends hundreds of dollars every year on gaming.

Thought they have been for a while :p

Hardly surprising though

I still remember fondly when everyone called me a moron for saying out loud that mobile/tablet games would damage dedicated handheld markets. Good times!

Sad state of affairs. Almost $30 billion in "skip ahead" microtransactions.

I know right? I can't believe people would actually spend games for trash such as Candy Crush and CoC.

/spends 20 bucks on DLC for trash maps on Call of Duty/
