Actually, they aren't that hard. Sure, you should ignore the first game because it is very inconsistent in its design and difficulty, but from MM2 onwards, things get a lot more fair. Doesn't mean that there aren't some challenging sections and bosses (or one or the other trial-and-error part), but the introduction of E-tanks to refill your life gauge allows players to get past most of them without too much problems. Although MM9 and MM10 were made under the belief that difficulty is what made Mega Man popular, so they feature more cheap deaths than the NES games.

Well, it wouldn't be the first time that I missed some games out of fear because of their supposed difficulty. Actually, the same happened to me with Dark Souls until I played it myself and thought it was just a commercial tactic. Sell the game because of its difficulty, because it's not really that hard. Which game do you think is more accessible for beginners? I'm just curious, and I might try one of them when I finish SF: Zero.

Am I the only one who liked most of them about the same with no clear winner? I did like Bubbleman theme though in... huh... Was it mega man 2? I'm not even sure, the games run together in my memory. I grew up owning 1-6 and it's been a long time.

Mega Man 9 and 4 always felt like the most polished in the series. Great level design and weapons and perhaps maybe not the best robot masters but some of the best and most fun to use weapons. Other than one stage in Mega Man 4, the game is almost perfect for me. Mega Man 7 almost never gets the love it deserves, it's different but great. I don't really like 3 a whole lot, it's still leagues above 8 and 1 but the levels felt pretty flat, Wily Castle was way too easy and the weapons weren't all too great.

Mega Man 7 is the game that got me in the series! I love it so much.

I will never understand the love for MM3. It's the worst on the NES due to the oh so many slowdowns in the game, some levels are practically unplayable because of it. Too bad because the music is top notch and so is the level design.

As someone who loves MM3, I felt it was just game that on its own felt like a great, complete game, but they went even further and added some bits of greatness from MM2 as well as extending the length of the game, which I felt was pretty great. So that somewhat edges it for me over MM2. Also, Protoman is 1st introduced in it. So... there's that.

2 is great as well. What I can't understand is how anyone can place MM8 high on the list. I hated that game so much, I couldn't even finish it, and I finished all the other ones.

The only stage i experienced slowdown in was the Snake Man boss fight, other than that, Mega Man 2 had way more of it.

I'll never understand the love for Mega Man 5, it added nothing for the franchise and felt like a waste of time.

I Love Playstation, but my uncle works at Nintendo.
