Forums - Sony - When will PS3 get to 10 million consoles sold in North America?

You think that the PS3 will average 65k a week in NA?

HAHAHAHAHA. Come on now, its almost April, yet the PS3 is still selling 60k a week plus. There are huge releases upcoming, most likely a huge price drop, and increasing demand for Blu-Ray. It will have to average atleast 90-100k this year, unless something drastic happens.

Maybe, maybe not. 360 is going strong in the States. PS3 will have to bring some excellent exclusives, otherwise it will be 2009...

I wouldnt say maybe not, I would say its very likely though. Now that blu-ray has won against HD DVD it should help PS3 sales. Sony should advertise it more as the best blu-ray player you can buy, Im sure people would want it since its also a nex gen gaming system. 10 million is likely for the PS3 to be able to achieve in that region of the world, also I believe the PS3 can manage 15 million Life time sales in NA.

you do have a point there.

okay I think I'll say about 80,000 per week. So maybe more like summer '09.

At 35k/week it would be about 163 weeks.

At 50k/week it would be 114 weeks.

At 60k/week it would be 95 Weeks

At 75k/week it would be 76 Weeks

At 100k/week it would be 57 Weeks

To reach 10 million one year from now (52 weeks), it would have to sell 109,615 per week.

Those are some simple calculations. I'd say it sells between 60-75 thousand per week, so my bet will be 85 weeks based on my calculations. This is about a year and 3/4 so my guess will be:

September of 2009.

Edit: of course you have to take into consideration the possibility of a price drop, which will only increase sales.

Also take into consideration exclusives & Christmas sales don't make the dumb mistake of considering Jan/Feb sales as the years average

Quote --->  about X360, MS made a BIG anti-piracy system, it is called 3RLs, or RRoD. I know a bunch of ppl afraid to open a X360 and void warrant because they will need it...

April + May + June + July + August = 70k/week = 1,540,000
Sep + Oct = 100k/week = 900,000
Nov = 110k/week = 440,000
Dec = 250k/week = 1,250,000

4,130,000 (Total 8,430,000)

Then lets say it does 90k/week the first few months in 2009 and PS3 hits 10 million the week of April 13th, 2009

I'm a 360 fanboy, and I'm trying to be as fair as possible with these numbers.. but IMO (as MikeB would say) I don't think PS3 will hit 10 million till Sept 2009

You are both forgetting that the christmas season is responsible for something like 1/2 of retail games sales (in America).

right now it's at 65k per week. If it sustains that until U.S. thanskgiving (when xmas shopping begins) that will be  1/2 the total years sales.   That's 8 months away.  32 weeks.

32 * 60k =  1920 k consoles

already sold up to march 3 =700k  (pretty close to 60/week so far this year...)

total until start of xmas season = 2620k

Xmas adds another 2620k

Total sales for 2007 = 5240k   (< - note that it averages around 100k/week)

Start of year 3600k

Total end of 2007 = 5240+3600= 8840k.

It will have a good year, but it won't break 10M. I don't even think a price drop would do it, they are well short.
