Forums - Gaming - Is 720p still acceptable to you?

Well, is it?

Yes 571 64.30%

No 317 35.70%

Total:888

As long as the images don't look down right horrible, I'll accept anything.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Yep.

Sure. If it means i can have 60fps i'll make the trade anytime.

Yes, it's still acceptable. For PS4/XOne, you'll get 60fps with 720p. WiiU games are still pleasing.

With that said, 1080p is still preferred.

Your mistake is assuming resolution is the only thing that represents "thinking forward". A game like Quantum Break looks better than a vast majority of 1080p games and does incredible things with animations and effects. Things that push limits and make it unique. Should they have toned those down so the game could hit a constant and official 1080p resolution? Yikes. Is Madden 16 a better technical showcase because its 1080p?

Ouch, Quantum Break LOOKED beautiful when it was previewed, the current version is a blurry mess.. and you can't even bypass the upscaling BS they do on the PC version... This is an horrible looking game, sorry :-/

I grand you, the effects looked great, in their gamplay demos, apparently before it was decided to implement the low resolution upscaling... I think it would have looked much better at 720p with a regular upscaling technique, as opposed to the temporal reprojection BS that ended up being used.

Anyway, maybe it's nice for an XB1 game?

Honestly, I'd be fine with 320 x 240. For me, video games are so much more than the number of pixels displayed.

Some PS4 games run at 1600 x 900p or weird resolutions like the order 1920 x 800p and most ps4 games (besides indies of course) run at 30fps. That's as unacceptable as 720p, this gen's standard should be 1080/60 on PS4 and X1.

Both have low end hardware and Microsoft and Sony are to blame for it.

Not neccessarily.  If you want to group all Xbox owner as one group and the same with PS4 owners, go right ahead.  You're assuming I am which I'm not which in turn makes your argument flawed at best.  But for those particular PS4 owners, yes, they are no better than those particular Xbox owners.  So that I agree with, and again, I'm not grouping all owners of a particular console in one mass broad stroke group.  That's your first mistake.

Why would I be assuming we're talking about all console owners when you said "diehard Xbox supporters"? The natural assumption is we're talking about diehard Xbox and PS supporters. Whatever that means, anyway. You don't have to be a "diehard" supporter of either platform to not give a rats ass about resolution. I didn't paint anyone with a broad stroke, but you did by assuming anyone who is ok with a lower resolution must be a "diehard supporter" of Xbox. Hope that helps.

Your second mistake is that YOU are assuming that I'm assuming that "resolution is the only thing that represents 'thinking forward.'"  I never said it was the only thing.  That was YOUR aasumption.  But can you imagine how even more beautiful Quantum Break would look if it were rendered in 1080p with all effects intacted?  Even more awesomeness!  Again, not saying 720p is bad by any means.  But when you have a multi-platform title with a version that's rendered in 1080p with effects that are just as good if not better than its 720p counterpart, more power (literally as well as figuratively) to the purchaser of the 1080p version.

I can't read your mind unfortunately, I can only base responses off what you have posted. "purposely not looking forward" by not supporting a platform with more 1080p games reads like resolution is what is pushing the industry forward. Otherwise, that comment makes no sense whatsoever. You can backpedal all you want, it won't change that. Also, you're still carrying on about 720p. I'm still waiting for this list of games that are 1080p on PS4 and 720p on Xbone. Again, I can only reply based on your posts, and based on your posts there must be an extremely large list of games that are 1080p on PS4 but had to go down to 720p on Xbone. Otherwise you'd be making a big stink over nothing. Please confirm.

And your third mistake is that I WILL be buying Uncharted 4, but NOT for the multi-player.  So regardless on how the multi-plaYer pans out, it's a non-issue with me no matter how you want to slice your reasoning correct or incorrect.  But is it arguable to say that Uncharted 4 mulit-player at 900p will look better than Quantum Break 720p single player?  If so then, UH-OH!!!

;)

Cool, so you're buying Uncharted 4 because of "justifications". Exactly as I thought. No  point in me replying again ;)

It's very unfortunate that you must resort to self-projected falsehoods you've attempted to placed upon me to justify your false arguments. As you've purposely mischaracterize me, I've clarify myself each time without personal retaliation. Yet you fail to return in kind probably because my sound reasoning of preference trumps your personal self-righteous prideful ego.  I've tried to have a civil discussion by using reasoning and clarification, but it's apparent that your self-righteousness is more than important than reality.

PC version is a mess, haven't played it yet. Game looks great for any console game. I would put it up there with any of my PS4 games.

I was gaming at higher than 720P in the mid 90's. (1280x1024)

I don't find 1080P acceptable unless it's a mobile device, 720P has no chance, 1080P belongs in last century.
Quad HD and Quad Full HD is where it is at.

I also find it hilarious that the same people on these forums who didn't care about resolution before these consoles launched are championing 1080P like it's some new amazing revelation.

Amen. My phone has higher than 1080p resolution on a 5.5 inch screen. Any decent sized screen should be 1440p minimum or 4k standard now adays

Long Live SHIO!
