Doubt it, for three reasons. Splitting the userbase is a very bad idea in the console market; and a GPU double the power of the PS4's would make the PS4 more expensive than 399. Finally, why would they make it more powerful JUST for PSVR? It really doesn't make sense.

Sounds like all the profit from PS4 will be eaten up instantly by this new model if they sell it for $400 or $500 with the improved CPU.

Because this sets a very bad precedent..
There is a reason why the console market is not ..again "not " the PC market.
The blurring of the console market & the PC together is on a whole in my opinion a very bad thing..increase hardware cost before not even mid cycle , than the PS5 what release 3 to 5 years later? What's the point, than of trying to keep the hardware standard as a single system you buy into for the life of the cycle..setting a cycle for one model to not even be 4 years before refresh is complicating the whole point of the console space when you do not need to do that..the PC already has that..why turn the console market into a Pseudo PC market..it just makes the idea of even having a console market redundant. In my opinion.

That does not key of promotes stability for your platform..unless its one unified platform, I mean would that than be two separate firmware updates while your at it one made for each..release a mid cycle upgrade Now you have the original, the upgrade and than the new next gen, system  than any other legacy systems to boot.

Do let's see in Sony's case what we are talking here

Well if this is true it would be in line with what I said in a recent post in another thread a few days ago. This wouldn't play 4k AAA games. The GPU by itself would cost just as much as a PS4 too, meaning huge losses per unit if they sold it at 400 USD for example.

What exactly is there to gain? VR market is looking many years too soon, the tech isn't ready and it's not for everything. This also completely tares down the wall for consoles being cheaper then PC's which throws this idea into even more madness. Seems like mountains of problems and risks... They wouldn't even be able to force 3rd party's to make sure their games performance is good on both Sku's. We already get games forced out the door with awful performance as it is.

I suppose it will be funny when we have Consoles holding back consoles holding back PC... lol

I ain't with it. We just spend $400 on the PS4 2.5 years ago. As a gamer with a life, i just can't keep blowing $400-$500 on a video game console every 3 years.

x86 is the CPU architecture. Not the GPU. The GPU driver stack is completely independant from the CPU. It could as well be a POWER CPU and it would be as easy to upgrade.
