Forums - Nintendo - I think third party devs have a mindset that gimped Wii games will sell anyways....

Be that as it may, development focus always goes to the best-selling console in the long run. It's just good business practice. A larger user base combined with a lower development cost makes the Wii a profitable option for savvy developers. We won't see the demise of PS3 and 360 support from third parties, of course; but we will be seeing a lot more support for the Wii than either of them in the long run due to the bigger pay-offs for Wii-developed games. Unless the market mechanism suddenly and spontaneously fails, that is, but that's fairly unlikely.

ok... what if.. the FPS FAD goes away... then what does the 360 have left? I personally don't care for FPS games, and think it is lame the 360 is covered all over with them.

The 360 has how many AAA non- FPS(or TFPS) exclusives? ... Lost Od? is that triple A? ... more like AA.5... help me hear I am having a hard time with this one...

oh ya, and to the guy who said that 3rd parties all hate nintendo.... I think you are still stuck in the Yamachi days. Iwata has done a great job repairing relationships. Almost every 3rd party is putting good(not their AAA yet) games on the Wii. Capcom(RE, UC, Z&W), Tecmo(Fatal Frame), Konami(DDR, PES) I'll keep going, but these are all games that would not have come to a Nintendo system in the era you are referring to(N64).

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

@Words of Wisdom

Sure that's one way to look at it. Developers who don't develop HD games now will be handicapped in the future....but what about developers who don't make games with motion control? Microsoft put in a design for a motion sensing controller and Sony did a failed attempt at pretending to be the Wii remote, so it's obvious that Sony and Microsoft are thinking about taking motion control seriously.

If developers only work on HD games and don't work on motion control games, they're going to be extremely gimped in a few years when most (or all) games use motion control.

We'll see what happens.

@Soriku: I'm just as pissed off as you buddy... this trend has to end. Nintendo isn't exactly helping matters though with it's many issue's that are too long to list here.

See, I agree with that, my issue is with people who predict an overnight exodus of developers and the imminent demise of PS3/360.  My biggest concern is that increased support could be a double edged sword: the Wii will certainly see more quality games released, but the flood of shovelware will most likely continue.

I hope things change by the end of the year. At least it looks like 3rd parties are slowly starting to delevop good games for the Wii. (No More Heroes, Zak & Wiki, etc.)

As stated before, the lack of downloadable content is Nintendo's fault, but the rest of the "gimps" is Harmonix's fault.

"To love and to cherish, in sickness and in health, for as long you shall be resurrected from death in the church"

This is what I said in this thread http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=20842&start=0

Firstly, casuals will have enough mini games to last them. They will buy a few a year ,but it won't be a quick buck for publishers to make a casual game on the wii. I see alot of casuals turning hardcore and want some more hardcore games on the wii also. These two things will force developers to start sending old ps3/360/pc multiplats on the wii since it's easier than making a large game. Then everybody will be satisfied for a while until they start to run out of multiplats to port. Then we will see more an more hardcore exclusives and wii being including with new multiplats. After all of this 3/4 of the wii games will be casual and another 1/4 of them will be hardcore. This is how it will stay for the generation. This all happens after the ps2 dies and developers actually have to make new games or find a different console to port from. We will also see less shovelware and more quality games , because people will actually work on the games instead of port out of everywhere. I could see the controls being taking advantage of , and alot of games that use 1:1 controls and people actually prefering the wii to other consoles , because of these controls. We will also see alot of games that were started after people started to realize the Wii's success.

Now we will see an increase in 3rd party before this , but this is what will set the wii ahead of the 360 , and ps3 in terms of 3rd party.

This is all speculation and my opinion so don't flame me if you think it's bad.

I also have a few questions for people who prefer the other consoles to the wii.

1 You have a wii , but prefer another console. If this happens would you play your wii more?Would you prefer it more than this other console?

2 You don't have a wii , but plan on getting one. Would this make you decide on getting one or not?

3 You don't have a wii, and don't plan on getting one. Would this make you reconsider.

If things happened this way the wii would be the leader in 1st party and 3rd party.

Even a large amount of shovelware can't do a system in on its own; the PS2 is a great example of that fact in action. There are well over 1,500 games for the PS2, yet I'd wager fewer than 200 are considered "good". What hurts a system (and what did the Atari 2600 in) is massive quantities of shovelware getting released coupled with NO good releases. As it's a Nintendo platform, and Nintendo is the most prolific first-party developer in history, that's not even a concern for the Wii.

Idk why all you people keep complaining about third parties on the wii all the time.We all now that out of the 3 consoles this gen the wii has the worst 3rd party support(for now) ports, remakes, low budget games, shovelware this is mainly because nobody expected the wii to be a success + a lot more reasons like the fact that everybody thought that the ps3 was going to win the console war and that the 360 was realease before so all the 3rd parties where focusing on the HD consoles rather than the wii that's why games like Assassin's Creed and Devil May Cry 4 where not realese on the wii because they have been in development before the wii became and success .I'm also pretty sure that the wii won't have re5 because the wii can't handle it + I will prefer a new RE exclusive to the Wii . I don't complain because who needs 3rd party games when you can have smg and brawl + AAA exclusive third party games are slowly coming mh3,ff4 all you guys should give the wii a break and wait until the E3 if by that time no AAA exclusive 3rd party games are announce for the wii,I myself will make a thread complaining. I'm pretty sure Rockband 2 on the wii will have dlc this wii version of rockband is just a way for harmonix to test the waters on the wii.

Well if you look at games like Zack & Wiki and Carnival games you can see that 3rd party developers may have a reason to take that approach.

Invest little money into casual game and get good returns as opposed to invest more money into a better game which isn't well suited for casual gamers and make less money. If you looked at it strictly from a business standpoint what would you do??

Exactly, if crap sells, keep making it.  Great way to make a return on your buck.  If the fans don't care, why should you?

I don't think Zack and Wiki should be called crap though.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
