Forums - Gaming - Thinking of buying Mega Drive/CD

Hey guys, so im thinking of buying a Mega Drive/Mega-CD and from my understanding its called Sega CD in America and Mega-CD where i live in the UK, i was wondering if i bought a game that says Sega-CD on the cover would it play in a Mega-CD or not, any help would be great, i wish i never had sold my old Mega Drive all those years ago now feels the time to get another one.

I think if it has the PAL symbol you should be fine. I don't think they were region locked. That and I'm not sure if PAL and NTSC are still a thing.

If you do get it, make sure you buy:

Snatcher (best Kojima game)
Ground Zero Texas
Eternal Champions CD (awesome awesome fighter with fmv death moves)

Night Trap is a fun too but ground zero is way better.

What games you looking at getting?

Yes lol thats what i want the Mega-CD for Eternal Champions Challenge From The Darkside, i had the original on my old Mega Drive which for the bad fighting mechanics i still found enjoyment out of it, ill check the others out to :)

Never thought I'd meet anyone that played Eternal Champions on the Mega Drive. That game was tough as nails. I can't think of anyone that's completed it due to any loss sending you back a round.

If you like Lylat Wars, make sure you check out Silpheed. It had an amazing soundtrack too.

Lol i loved the music as well in the first game, matched the themes well of the stages, any idea what the difference is between theme park on the mega drive and theme park cd? Also do you own a Mega Drive/Mega CD?

I'm so dissappointed in your Username.. you don't even own a megadrive and yet....

i actually bought an everdrive for my megadrive just last week

(yes roms are bad, ninja's beat pirates)

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

While I have about 5 different megadrives in my collection I don't own any of it's lifesupport addons, even though I did get a copy of the 32X's Doom just because it was at a car boot sale.... one day I might buy the addon to play it lol.

From what I know about the SegaCD or MegaCD is that they are a technical disaster of really low quality CD drives which were originally designed for Audio CDs and not CDroms (or something to that effect) as such the chances of getting one in really perfect working order which hasn't been refurbished now is pretty low, also make sure you get the right Mega CD addon for the Megadrive you have, the Megadrive 1 version of the Mega CD is the huge platform which goes under the system and the Megadrive 2 version sits next to the console, they're not interchangable, so get the right one or you'll be going off to buy a second megadrive down the line.

Wait.... after taking a look around... and spending more time than I want to admit (refund please) you can use a Megadrive 1 unit with a Mega CD 2 (just needs an extender platform for the console to rest on) I think you might be able to use a Megadrive 2 with a Mega CD1 but it appears there is an extra cable needed to link them up instead of the base connection.

Also from what I read you want to get a Mega CD 2 because the first model of it has a mechanical opening disk drive rather than a top loader and yeah... it's old and more moving parts which all add to the chance of it failing to work.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Lol i used to, my mum made me sell it because i wanted a Playstation, i regret ever selling it, the reason i have not bought another to this day is because it wont be my original one i had and it "cuts me deep" lol, i wonder what happned to mine from time to time, is it just sat in someones loft somewhere forgotten about collecting dust or did it just get thrown away :,,(

With some trickery you can burn Mega CD games.

It's great to know if you want to play Snatcher or Lunar but don't wanna spend hundreds of dollars. You can also burn Sonic Megamix and play it on a real Mega CD which is kind of awesome, but will eat up all the save game data on the unit, so you'll have to erase the save file every now and then.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Not played theme park on it. I would think it would be the cgi into and bits since it was on cd.

I've not owned a Mega Drive and Mega CD since I moved on to the next gen consoles back then.

Since I never was able to afford the next gen consoles (many expensive habits), I've always traded and moved on. But I play as many games as I can before I do. Last year I completed 35 games. I've been told that's a lot.
