But how will we drive away new Xbox gamers without all the negativity?

| DJEVOLVE said: You read that right. The second largest source of revenue for Microsoft last quarter came from gaming. Ed Bott has illustrated the breakdown of Microsoft’s revenue in this chart:
Naysayers can argue that all of this revenue did not come from console games and that is a fair point. |
A better point would be to look at how 'Gaming' is made up. How much of this is Minecraft sales? Microsoft owns Minecraft now and that makes a fucking megaton. Not just in sales, but merchandise too.
MS don't even like to say how many Xboxes they sell, so without more information on what this chart actually means - Xbox going down the pan is still a very real talking point.
The revenue is there, the doom and gloom is mostly about the direction of XBOX, would it still be a console or just an XBOX OS/App that can run on mini-type of computers like steam machine.
I'm not denying that MS can get revenue from gaming it is just more of the direction of XBOX as there are a lot of XBOX fans around the world who would love to have an XBOX console rather than just a mini-PC like console without the uniqueness of what XBOX was defined in its gaming history.

So the author complains about click-bait articles, then publishes an article with very little substance that reaches a definitive conclusion? No breakdown of 'Gaming'? No analysis of revenue versus profit? It's like someone saying that Sony wasn't in financial trouble in 2010 because they posted 60 billion in revenue.

Technically, Atai and Sega are still in the gaming industry too...
I don't expect Xbox to just disappear, but I think there will definitely be some changes. We may not see them in the console industry in quite the same way they were the last two generations. I believe the same is happening to Nintedo, going more mobile and all.
Honestly, I see the death of consoles, to some extent. No need for physical hardware, when almost everything turns software based. Controllers, and other peripherals, and BRAND are what will matter most. I think Sony will just hold out the longest, at this pace. Or perhaps, there will ALWAYS be a place for a consoles?
It'll be interesting to see how the next few years play out, for sure.
Honestly, I wouldn't be too sure of that. Carrying over all xbox exclusives to PC is a pretty good way to kill it.
Sony still makes lot of money selling insurance. Hard to imagine gaming could have eclipsed that.

windows is all profit though. xbox is not. If someone buys an xbox, and two games, microsoft will get revenue of 400$, but profit of 20-30$. If someone buys 100$ of windows, ms profits 100$ of windows. MS likely...scratch that...DOES make more on windows than xbox. Way more. Looking at the graph, and breaking down the numbers, "gaming" rev was around 5b, while windows was around 3.5-4b even if ms made 50% profit off of xbox revenues, it would still be under windows by 1-2 billion...or double....and that's being very generous. |
Revenue is revenue and they are keeping it... They are easy money...
