In my experience, games like F-Zero and Metroid are incredibly overrated. They're just not fun or satisfying. They're Nintendo's worst b-series games.

Maybe if they made Metroid more like Mass Effect and F-Zero more like Mario Kart, they would be much better. Give Metroid an actual story, don't make it first person, and stop doing boring Doom/Quake style FPS dungeon crawls, THEN Metroid will be a good game.

if you're implying that Metroid doesn't really have a 'story' then you either haven't actually played the games or just weren't paying attention while you were. a lot of the 'story' comes from collecting notes and reading technologial crap with your scanner. you have to PUT together the story on your own, its not spoonfed. In fact that's one thing that makes the Metroid series so great, its storytelling matches perfectly with its dark and eeiry mood. a game in its tone would seem strange if it was like super strongly narrated and told

and the F-Zero series is one of the best racing franchises ever. I don't know if you've played F-Zero GX or not but its probably the best racing game in the last decade and a half imo. tons of content, tons of customizable features for your vehicle, a great story mode, etc.

to suggest that F-Zero should be more like Mario Kart is one of the silliest things I've ever heard- the games are not AT ALL alike. one, despite retaining a comic-book cartoon esque vibe, is a SERIOUS racer, and the other is a party-game aimed at kids. that suggestion would be akin to saying that Gran Turismo should be more like Mario Kart. its absurd

You misunderstand, I am talking about giving Metroid a REAL story, similar to how Mass Effect; you know, with pa plot, dialogue, other characters, etc... Not bits and pieces of exposition that you have to get via a boring intrusive scanning system. Plus, around 98% of what you scan Is duplicate garbage info, nothing but a bunch of filler shoved into a clunky FPS Turok clone.

Also, you're making a false equivalency with Gran Turismo. Unlike F-Zero, Gran Turismo  is actually successfull; and it's not made by Nintendo either like F-Zero and Mario Kart are. I am not really sure what you mean about F-Zero being a serious racer? Maybe if you mean it is in serious need of improvement.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Mass effect and metroid are completely different franchises. metroid isn't meant to have a lot of characters, as the feeling of isolation is the focus. getting information from ruins/space pirates computer actually fits the franchise.

I agree with you so much. I respect everyone, but I don't understand why some fans complain in almost every thread because there isn't a new Metroid. Maybe the games just cost too much and selling 1m is not enough. I like F-zero, but I agree with your ideas about Metroid. I'm sure there will be a surprise Metroid for NX, but then I hope everyone will run to the shop and buy every single copy 'cause if the game doesn't sell well, I will be pissed to hear more complaints

I can wait 3 years for a great Metroid game.

...how exactly did we come to the conclusion that there isn't a Metroid game being worked on at the moment, exactly? Not that I'm betting there is one, but I fail to see how Retro working on a game in 2014, and then something said in 2015, suddenly rules out the current development of any Metroid title at all (ignoring FF, obviously).

Simple fact. Nintendo could of said something about said game. To minimize Fed Force hate.

Everything this.  Nintendo has lost their ambition and sense of artistry.

Well, that's because the franchise just doesn't sell shit... So Nintendo is going to give up on it someday, like they did immediately after Super Metroid. The same thing almost happened with Fire Emblem until Awakening saved the series.

So that one game selling 2 million, saved the series. But all the Metroid games selling that or more. Even Other M. It's a failure.

can we just get some indie company to do it? shovel knight took over for the classic castlevania, freedom planet took sonic's place, and hopefully mighty #9 can get here soon enough to bring the megaman magic back

I think the dev that created "The Swapper" would be a perfect match for "Metroid V".

I've been thinking all this gen: why hasn't Nintendo utilized the smaller indie devs that they've been forging relationships with? Shin'en would be great for "Wave Race" (they've been begging Nintendo) and "F-Zero" (hello, "Fast Racing Neo"). Nintendo could fund titles with proven smaller devs and send a few trusted crew over to help and supervise development. Suddenly, Nintendo has more talented teams for smaller (2.5D, etc.) titles, and their major studios can set their focus on true AAA titles.

This is Nintendo we're talking about. The company that tried to monetize let's plays. Trying to project sensible consumer relation sense onto them is a hopeless endeavor.

i think it could work, but fans would expect more from F-Zero after FRN, not just a simple palette swap or something. That would take a little more money, more manpower, and a little more time for an indie that has a staff in double figures. Sure great games can come from small teams, but I think fans want more from F-Zero than a simple return to form (granted I haven't played FRN and I'm not sure how much they'll have to build upon to reach expectations for F-Zero).

We could still get a 2D Metroid sooner and that would be so fucking awesome!

Nintendo doesn't care about the franchise and it's fans anymore.

Nintendo hates everybody because it hates itself, like Hitler. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually were a bunch of serial killers and if their games secretly spread chemtrails, Morgellons, Ebola, ISIS and Jar Jar Binks, not necessarily in this order.
