Forums - Sony - Sony Sees The End Of Smartphones

He very obviously knows something we don't, which is entirely feasible. I won't count this arguement out, as he basically points to the evolution from the first cell phones to the first smart phones as a comparison. My initial thought -

The quantum phone.

This is also the true next generation technology that engineers are working to put into computers. Unfortunately the tech is still infantile and if I remember correctly, there are reliability and manufacturing problems that prevent this from being manufactured on a large scale yet.

What a stupid comment from Kaz. If anything, smartphones are gonna replace more and more devices. Wallets are on their way out, point and shoot cameras are dead, camcorders are dead etc

.... and smartphones are gonna play an important rule in powering your future VR experiences, controlling your smarthomes etc

Smartphones are evolving, just because the smartphones you make aren't pushing boundaries, it doesn't mean other manufactures are in the same boat.

I'm not sure about that. People are fucking obssesed with smartphones, it would take a lot of time to substitute that with another obsession xDDD.

People were also obsessed with normal mobile phones. Personally, I see the world being dumbed down lately, so I think dumb phones would be a good move backwards.

XDDDD. Smart-phones ---> dumb-phones. I like that evolution. The next step would be a tech which makes people even dumber. Actually, it's not a tech's fault, but I truly think that smartphones have made some people just stupid. Or maybe they just made public the dumbness inside them.

He just wishes that so Vita can have a shot again but it's not happening!

The people that think there will be no change are the people that lack vision. Personally I don't have the vision that people a lot smarter than me have and I haven't got a clue what is the next big thing after smart phones. But at the same time I know there are people out there that have the vision to innovate.

I think he meant that the end of cell phones for Sony is coming. They are getting out of that business cuz their phones suck and don't sell.

You do realize that they are leading in Image sensors who are used in almost every other smartphone? They have more to lose than other Companys. It seems there is no confidence in the smartphone market for Sony.

Maybe it wont be replaced but i see people stop buying the latest phones every year or even 5 years because even the cheapest 100€ smartphone performs decentley to any 600€ Iphone as technology progressed forward. People are burned out spending money on devices they are just going to use for Facebook. The market will slowley decline

False. As for sales, their smartphone business saw a 15% decline last quarter, yes, but that's more to do with less output from them (meaning less releases and marketing).

Not entirely false. Seen so many people who owned them wake up to damaged cracked screens. They seem to give way on their own sometimes lol.

Here's what I think replaces Smart Phones. A contact lens that you put on your eye and it will give you a AR experience you can control by looking around and blinking. Either that or its connected to a device you keep in your pocket and you wear glasses that give you a AR experience.

VR is a peripheral. Therefore it ain't replacing shit. As for smartphones,Apple, Samsung and HTC own that field, so I guess Kaz is speaking for his company.
