Forums - Nintendo - Developer “Guarantees” that “Nintendo NX Won’t Have Third-Party Support”

Since their only game is exclusive to Microsoft platforms... I think it's a pretty safe bet to assume that Nintendo didn't trust them enough. Plus, they're an indie company, this is not the end of the world. I bet they'll get a dev kit once the thing is officially announced.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Seems like a case of an inflated ego and feeling of entitlement.  All his whining does is justify Nintendo's decision not to contact him since they only want to give dev kits (and even spec details) to people they know they can trust.

This is the sort of attitude that has helped lead to nintendo's dire 3rd party support. Like it or not these are the people that help make or break a console and the sense of entitlement and inflated ego's come with the fact they are risking large bundles of money resources and time and hence expect some respect for that. I have been on the receiving end of those sort of self entitled requests but the way to treat them is grit your teeth give them what you can or tell them when they can have what they want or why not, getting these people onside should be a priority, in the end Nintendo needs them more than they need Nintendo.

But this guy in particular Nintendo can afford to ignore, because as far as we know he's never shown any inclination towards releasing a game on any past Nintendo platform, and he's pretty much 2nd party for MS at this point in time. Indies, who are actually independant of any platform, that have released games on Nintendo platforms in the past will hopefully be getting somewhat better treatment. If not, then that might be a time to worry about the depth of 3rd party engagement.

I'm about to destress some of you, so on the NeoGAF thread someone has said they played a beta of a huge third party game and the MOD leaked that the NX will be getting a version.

The Ori and Unravel guys are small indie devs, with the Unravel devs he said a while back he couldn't get a dev kit, that doesn't mean he doesn't have one now and if he still doesn't have one it doesn't mean much, not all indies devs will have dev kits before the system is even announced.

With the Ori guy, he even said in the article and i quote " it’s not just Nintendo, every hardware manufacturer is treating their devkits and their unreleased consoles like they’re the second coming and are insanely secretive about it to a stupid degree in todays time" So even Sony and MS have been doing this, also we know Sony didn't give all dev kits to indies before the announcement, a lot of them got it after February 2013.

Just because not every small indie dev has a NX dev kit doesn't mean the NX will lack third party support. Nintendo made sure they gave the dev kits to big third party's and small indies that have worked closely with Nintendo before. It just so happens that Moon Studios and Coldwood Interactive weren't on Nintendo number 1 priority as of when the Unravel guy had his convo with the Nintendo dev and the Ori guy as of right now.

Since we know the NX NDA is very strict (way more then Wii U ever was), it' possible a lot of the devs that say "We don't know what NX is" are just lying and don't want to be questioned any further hence not breaking NDA.

Edit: Oh and I just read the last page about how the reason the Moonshine studio's didn't get a dev kit was because they only worked with Microsoft and they can't be trusted, yeah no that's not how these things work, they will get a dev kit but probably after the NX is announced.

Nintendo can't afford to ignore anyone that is showing an interest in investing in Nintendo's success. Least of all someone that is currently only on another platform as these are exactly the people they need to win over. convincing people that alredy develop for nintendo to keep developing is the minor part of the battle, convincing those that have previously ignored or abandoned them is where they need to win favour.

This is coming from someone who's never even made a game FOR a Nintendo system.

Lol you just described most third party devs right now.

Realistically Nintendo systems only get a little bit of third party support at launch and then nothing so this is not surprising.

Also, didn't he say that both Sony and MS did that as well? Did the PS4 end up not having 3rd party support?

As I staeted before, the problem isn't just specs.

1. First, he's presuming a 2016 launch which was never going to happen.  The mere fact expects a 2016 launch tells me he knows very little about the industry itself.

2. We don't what NX is even supposed to be.  Releasing specs for a home console is one thing but what if NX is a handheld?  What if NX is a mobile phone partnership?  What if NX is a whole family of devices?  What if NX is none of these?

A small indie developer with no ties to Nintendo and only 1 game to market thus far demanding that they give him all the details before they are ready to reveal to everyone else while holding presumptions he doesn't know a damn thing about is akin to not knowing how to swin and being pissed at at an off duty life guard at home for not coming to your rescue when you drunkenly dive off the high dive because you thought you could fly.

Wait, wait, wait.  You're talking down to the developer of one of the most decorated games of last year?  You're scoffing at his "one game" on the market?  Really?

That's a really lofty opinion you have of your own knowledge of the industry.

Thats not the point! Nintendo does not want that any Information about the Nintendo NX leaks until they themselfs announce the Nintendo NX!

Is the NX gonna be something that no one has ever done before, no. It's either gonna be on par with Sony/MS, or it's not. Hiding the hybrid system function is pointless. There's not much sony can do to "copy" that feature. Unless they make a new handheld. What else would they hide? The specs? Sony and MS can't change that now. Unless they're hiding this stuff, not to get bashed. Nintendo walks on to the stage and the system is lower powered still. Doesn't change their fate. Just delays it. They're hiding the controller? Nintendo has done everything in exsistance, with controllers. Nothing will really surpise anyone, anymore. The only thing that would be a true surpise. Is if they have all 3rd parties. Info on specs would actually help them.

Nintendo is KNOWN for innovating and trying different things with there consoles or handhelds!!! Nintendo is NOT known for just putting more RAM, and a better CPU in it, and then releasing it with just a higher number in the console name like other console developers ;) And because they will probably have something special again for the Nintendo NX, they want that nothing leaks early!

This just further supports the theory that NX is not launching this year.

This :) Just because one Indie Dev who is in reference with Microsoft does not get a Dev Kit does not mean that Nintendo will not have 3rd Party support ;)
