Forums - Gaming - Has Far Cry officially hit series fatigue(AKA Assassin's Creed syndrome)?

Well Primal is a spin-off, so I don't think it's really comparable.

But yeah Far Cry 4 offered too few new things and had way too many similarities to score above Far Cry 3.

You also described both Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs, which is why Ubisoft decided to take a break from the former.

Ah yes. I wonder how different Watch Dogs 2 will be from the original

The city and the characters. That's it. But you can bet there'll be "towers" to hack to get access to the area with the phone and the map, the story where the main character redeeems himself, side missions where you'll have to do some activities to disrupt ctOS, the same clothing with 20 different color schemes... you know, the usual.

It's kinda sad that we've reached a point where we can easily predict Ubisoft's plots and general ideas/themes for their games these days. I remember years ago when I would be excited and not know what company X was going to make next. These days we already know before the game is even being created.

This guy I recently came across sums it up for me these days:

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

It was headed that way once far cry 3 became, assasins creed the shooter. It was still good but, as someone who loved far cry 2, it lost a bit of the charm and became too gamey. Seeing how 4 turned out we can likely assume 5 will also be more of the same.
Id anything I'd applaud ubisoft for allowing primal and blood dragon too occur. To me they're more interesting than the likely predictable 5, even if they don't sell as well or score as well

Well Far Cry does seem to use the same formula every time:
-Exotic location
-People that need liberating from bad guy
-Protagonist thrust headlong into civil war between the two factions, and decides to help good guys
-Wildlife that you can either kill and craft into things or it kills you
-Leaves that you pick to make droogs and stuff
-Similar vehicles to drive around
-Towers that you climb to "unlock the map" or "reduce oppressing influence"
-Crap ton of similar outposts to liberate
-Similar collectibles that relate to the fictional land's history
-You can heal where the animal mauled you by using a stick to pull a bullet out of your arm
-Online co-op missions (where applicable)
*This is without considering Primal - although it will be similar in many aspects

They are good games, but if you can't deal with the same thing every time then you may be disappointed. Yes, they are feeling series fatigue

I just realized. Ubisoft are slowly over the years trying to tell you the very definition of insanity, only you actually pay to eventually learn it over a number of years. They've adopted the same idea for all of their games in which they copy the same formula for each game and tweak it slightly but keep repeating the process over and over while making people think things have changed. Of course it also comes to no surprises that they said at one point that they wouldn't make an IP unless they could turn it into a profitable franchise (aka milking an ip for tons of cash till it's dead).

Ubisoft is the incarnation of the definition of insanity.

Mind blown.

I think this is the problem with Ubisoft games not Far Cry in particular. All their games are following the same exact formula, and while from outside may look very different, at core they are very similar. Ubisoft seems to stick with what works for them, but since it's not working as well recently they might need to mix things up a bit. It doesn't help them that many other games are going open world and oversaturating the market.

No. it's not released every 12 months and this isn't a mainline entry. It's a spin off similar to battlefield hardline

Hopefully this more like bad company 2!

What's the difference? Battlefield 3 and Bad Company 2 were the same to me.

The Far Cry series reached fatigue status with FC4.
FC3 was warranted while Blood Dragon was acceptable.
FC4 came out too soon and then so did Primal.

Could not bring myself to finish 4 because it was such a retread of 3. I've heard Primal despite the setting is still literally the same as 3 and 4. Dunno how they managed to pull that off with such a unique setting.

BF3 was a waaaay more linear than Bad Company 2 and BC2 was not nearly as serious as BF3.
