Yeah I opened up a Wii U and the Disc drive takes up alot of space.

It's mainly the disc (bluray) drive that takes up space. Hard drive is emmc storage.

The other component that looks so big is the heat sink. That thing in the OP should have mobile ARM to dispate heat efficiently.
