TPHD also has new stuff without amiibo. The new ghost lantern, the mirrored hero mode from the get-go, the gameplay improvements, the gamepad functionalities, the 50 new collectibles to find around Hyrule... That cave is not an extra dungeon or anything similar, is an empty room with lots of enemies, wow.

And that's all good, except for the Wolf dungeon. It's like Nintendo feel compelled to do something like this for every game they release. And while right now it may just be a room full of enemies, tomorrow it may be something more significant in another game. And they're not above doing that. Look at Fire Emblem Fates. They tried DLC in Awakening for side stories and characters and it was successful. Now they split the main game's story and content into three separate games.

Well. They are not above that, is true, but that FE fates reference is not really all that fair. The third path of the game is very questionable, but it is not a full priced game. And for what I readed the 2 real games are completely different (even if they happen in the same story) and most important, every one of them is as long as FE Awakening. So you are buying 2 games because every game has enough content to be its own game, with 40 or 50 hours each one, however if you buy one, then you can get the second for half of the price, making it a 60$ game, the usual stuff we pay for homeconsole games, wich is not so out of place on what it seems the most ambitious 3DS game till date. The third path, again, is indeed questionable.

what do you think the functionality of the amiibo should even be? Do you think the game should just have no amiibo at all? If so, do you feel that way for every game that features amiibo?

A vibrator. That way everyone is happy.

Also, if they decide to make Amiibo content unlockable through the Amiibo, why not have that content be earnable in game by earning in game points of some kind? That way people who don't want to grind can get the Amiibo, while people who don't want to buy it can farm points in the game.

Perfect solution.

i think thats a pretty reasonable solution, although i think that it should be unlocked by something OTHER than grinding. because.. well, grinding just isnt fun. and companies use it as a way to get you to buy things that you usually wouldnt. id say make it unlockable by finding all the heart pieces or by just beating it 100%. something like that. more as a reward for being a completionist rather than farming for rupees or something crazy like that.

If it was a special edition of Batman Arkham whatever with a Batman figurine sold for $90 would people complain?

Yes, if Warner Bros Interactive were trying to sell an uprezzed PS4/XBO version of the 2009 game "Batman: Arkham Asylum" with some minor graphical tweaks and an $10 action figurine similar to this quality for 60 bucks, many people also would complain. Some fans would be fine with it and buy that remastered version, but many others would complain about the price.

Please stop trying to make Nintendo into a singled out victim with all your half-assed comparisons!

one difference here is that if warner bros added in the figure from your little link there, it would be completely pointless because theyre not in the business of making figurines that are interactive with your software. thats kind of a BIG difference between these two situations, dont you think? also, this is zelda we are talking about here, ok? not some batman game.

You guys who think the amiibo is bullshit, let me just ask a question: what do you think the functionality of the amiibo should even be? Do you think the game should just have no amiibo at all? If so, do you feel that way for every game that features amiibo?

Sorry I can't make more replies, i am getting ready for work right now. hopefully I will get time when I'm there so I can come back and play.

btw I noticed there are no posts from soundwave. He needs to come join the party

Amiibo-focused games.  Off the top of my head, they could do a f2p moba with a Nintendo flare  that needs amiibos to unlock characters and has level stats and other character info tied to the amiibo.  Other than that, I'd use amiibo as a way to get non-essential items/costumes while skipping their quest/mission parameters.  Essentially, I wouldn't lock anything down to amiibo and create a sort of 'amiibo-paywall' on games that don't focus on amiibo but rather use them as a way to get some nice optional stuff without any of the work.

Well, I knew many people interpreted Nintendo's PR that way, but they only said "content". Not "new content". They're actually absolutely not completely different games, nor is every one of them as long as FE Awakening. Not in terms of new content, which is what's important here. It was obvious from the start that there would be a lot of repeated content, because the first 6 Chapters of each game is identical in each version. And since it takes place in the same story, it's obvious that we would see repeats of many battles, with just some different dialogue. But I wanted to know exactly how much, so I looked into it thoroughly.
Pokemon Gold has as much content as Pokemon Silver. But that's not an entierly new game. In fact it's about 99% identical to the other game.

Birthright and Conquest do not each have enough content to warrant two individual games by Awakening's standards. Instead they have a lot of repeated content. Maps, characters, story, etc. I've done research on this. I have even made charts to illustrate it better, and I'm going to make a topic about it soon because many people seem to have misinterpreted Nintendo's PR like you did.
I just want people to know what they're paying for before they buy it. I'm as big of a FE fan as anyone else, and I also want to play this game. And I will. But there are some choices we can make as consumers that are important to know.
Here's a sneak peek at a chart I made.

I can barely see that chart, very little.

For what I can see of it, it seems like I'm indeed wrong, but at the same time, one of them has almost as much content as awakening, and then the second one has half of it. But the second one cost you half of the money so it doesnt really seem so unjustified. Then there is the third path... no comments. I'm not very happy with tthe way they handled this game, and I have to try it to give a proper opinion but it doesnt seem like a terrible thing, I mean, 40$ for 40 hours of content (wich is the average duration of FE games) and another 20 -25h for 20 $ makes sense after all. Anyway I'm looking forward to see your thread about this question.

Amiibo should be a microtransation. A way to gain access to something in game that you'd normally need to dedicate time and effort, but not money, to. Like I've said, Mario Maker's application of Splatoon is the gold standard of what it should always be.

I answered to the question: "If it was a special edition of Batman Arkham whatever with a Batman figurine sold for $90 would people complain?"

And of course WB could insert a NFC chip in the figurine or a download code for the B:AA-DLC... or just add that DLC-stuff on the disc like so many other remastered versions (f.e. TLoU:R). There goes your "BIG" difference.

Most of the time, you have to buy the amiibo separately so it's not free. And if you go digital, you won't be able to get the amiibo extras..

I think Amiibos is a great concept, but if they use it in the wrong way, it'll just be really annoying
