it was awesome.

Well, I played Twilight Princess before OoT, so I was a little underwhelmed by that particular game. I do recall playing SM64 way back in 1995 on a demo unit in Disney World, though. I was as happy as a 10 year old budding geek could be.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Having played Zeldas before, playing through the Deku tree, although cool, felt like such a drag because you knew there was something more coming, something much bigger. Then when you eventually stepped out onto Hyrule field............

I doubt that feeling will be matched in games again, the transition from 2D to 3D, done properly.

yeah playing sm64 for the first time blew away any other video games i'd ever played. just moving mario felt amazing. and actually to this day i still enjoy just running and jumping around with mario. no other game, even later mario's feels that way, but 64 still gives me that feeling. weird, amazing. and OOT was absolutely mindblowing. mario 64 perfected how a game is supposed to feel. OoT perfected what a game world is supposed to be. i definitely spent many hours just fishing in that game while i was stuck on one of the temples. those are probably the only two games where i can just enjoy the playing the game without actually trying to progress through the game at all and have fun for hours. no other games will ever have such a revolutionary feel. although playing wii sports for the first time is the only thing that comes close.

end of '08 predictions: wii - 43 million,  360 - 25 million, ps3 - 20 million

Games I've beat recently: Super Mario Galaxy, Knights of the Old Republic, Shadow of the Collossus

With Mario 64, I was probably 13 or so and a school mate had been bugging me with the phrase itsa me Mario! About how unbelievable the new mario was. Well, I had never seen a 64 before at the time. Was still playing Mario World and the like. I finally had the chance first with Zelda. Forgive me but this was my 1st zelda game so apart from the cartoons I didn't have much to go by. I played it with my brother and sister. Honestly, I was astounded especially hyrule field the first time. I remember we didn't move about for about 5 minutes because we were a bit overwhelmed. When we started moving we tried to make sure we weren't straying from the path on the field because we were actually afraid we would get lost in that gigantic field. No game since then has done that.

Not to start a fight or anything but I sincerely doubt most sony and ms fanboys can truly understand what I'm talking about.

Haha, I had similar feelings towards Hyrule Field at the time.  For years, there were just some sections of Hyrule Field that I would avoid because I didn't know what was there and I was afraid I'd get lost or die.  Now the field (and Hyrule in general) seems so small.

Well, I played both for the first time within the last 6 months on the VC. So, not exactly overwhelming.

Obviously that's not fair though. They're both still good games. Some parts just haven't aged as well as others, like the controls and the cameras.

Playing OoT for the first time is better than your first time making out or losing your virginity lol.

There's certain games that when you play it, it gives you this very strange feeling and you know with your gut you are playing a fantastic game. The experience cannot be described with words, it's just that awesome.

The first game i got this feeling in was Mario 64, then again in OoT. Probably some of the best gaming moments of my life.

First time I played OoT? Hmmm...

Opened the christmas wrapping... N64 and OoT, the Gold Cart Special Edition. Played it all night with a Gameinformer strategy guide next to me. I think I went about 2 days with no sleep.

I still have the Shiny special box the game came in.
