Forums - Gaming Discussion - That's a FINE story BROS

First of all, apologies if the title doesn't make sense. I tried to be clever with words and I'm not sure it has worked out.

So what's this about? Some of you guys may have seen these REACT videos on YouTube where they have teenagers, parents, OAPs etc play games and we see their reaction as they play through popular games. This channel is owned by the Fine Bros. They had over 14 million subscribers and their videos gets crazy number of views.

Recently, the Fine Bros have decided to start a new programme where if you wish to create similar videos in the style of Let's Play or React, they rather you go through them and earn your commission via them. There is also a warning of sorts to say by choosing not to do this may get you hit with licensing issues and they could bring thunder and lightning upon your peach.

In case it's badly explained, here is Boogie2988 giving a good breakdown of pro's & con's.

I'm sure there will be other big YouTubers who have made videos to. The video below was posted recently about how the Fine Bros screwed over a small Youtuber called 8bit Eric:

Anyhu, it seems people aren't happy, and it might be costing Fine Bros in terms of negative press and subscribers. There is a website which apparently shows updates every 5 seconds of their current number of subscribers, and if it is to be believed, they are losing around 5-20 subscribers every 5 seconds. You can click on the link below to see :

What's your opinion on what the Fine Bros are doing? Are you a subscriber? Are the numbers dropping enough to make an impact?

all they ever do is reactions anymore and most of it isnt even good

Their channel sucked to begin with. Just a bunch of fakes don't know how anyone actually watched their garbage without cringing

The fact that they want to TM a format and control the channels of who goes where and who is allowed is a scary thing itself, not to mention greedy. If they weren't trying to be like Hollywood and be more corporate like and controlling then they would simply allow YT to remain the wild west like it more or less is, their mentality is to simply TM and control things they feel they own and yet they don't. You don't own LP's just like you down own reaction videos because you cannot own how people react or what they react to just like you cannot own you watching someone playing a video game.

I was never subbed to them and only watched a few Elders react videos, but I strongly feel that they are going about this in one of the worst ways. I get that they want to expand, most Youtubers do when they get big enough, thing is the bigger they get the more corporate they become or they reach a point where they completely sell out and forget who they originally were or what made them unique.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

The post there had some pretty enlightening info, and shone some light on how disgusting this attempt is.

What they are doing is correct. I protect the formats that I am using on VGC as well. If other people are going to use the same framework, they should have the decency to ask for permission.

My only issue with that is that they weren't the first people to do reaction videos, but the ones to make them popular.

Additionally, they are telling people not to make content based on their content, which is based on content made by video game developers. It's almost pot calling the kettle black.

That was a good read. Can't believe they went after Ellen. I'd like to see them go after Oprah lol

They weren't the first ones? Then they are scum.

Their videos literally are watching people react to various video games. If you made a YouTube video of let's say your friend playing a game and called it "my friend reacting to Mortal Kombat," they would bend you over and have their way.

They also use a ton of other people's content in their own videos when they make the people react to other youtube videos for instance, but they don't ask for permission to use their footage, which is a bit hypocritical. Either way, it's been fun watching their subscribers drop.
