Memory slots pretty much confirm handheld. Internal storage or an external hard drive would still be the only thing that makes sense for a home console.

There was a patent that showed memory cards used in the hoem console.

More than likely to move save data from home console to handheld. I doubt this would be the home consoles main source of memory though.

If NX is really a unified platform, than using same media on home and handheld console makes sense, that means cartridge/SD card for handheld and home console, SD card like cartridge has lotsa benefits regard to DVD/Blu Ray media.

I wouldn't mind, but aren't SD cards more expensive than bluray as well?

Maybe just a little, Flash memory is becoming dirt cheap and when you buying millions of SD cards directly from manufacturer they are much more cheaper, also Nintendo could include wide variety of size of SD cards, from 4GB to 64GB depends on size of a game, you currently have Wii U games that have size from 2GB to 32GB.

True enough, but even if the cards are $1 more expensive than making a bluray, with as many millions of games Nintendo sells it would definilty add up. And no matter what, it would be far more expensive than ditching physical media altogether, and not having to need shelf space for games, or shipping costs, or manufacturing costs. Plus getting all third parties on board with getting a device to write to these memory cards (though that should probably be a part of the dev kits correct?...), and purchasing the cards... I don't know...

I'm just a little skeptical. It seems strange....

Having a proprietary card for games would cut back on piracy though....

$1 more expansive dont mean nothing if that is whole point of your next platform. Why you will not have shelf space for games!? 3DS has shelf space for games, this will be similar. I think for 3rd party won't be problem at all on which device they will write games.

Basicly you alredy have all this on 3DS, but this time it will be on home console too.

Also SD card means no optical drive and console that will be smaller and that need less power, all that means cheaper console and far more reliable console than any console with optical drive.

Anyone still denying the NX will reveal something that will release this year is in serious denial and are lost to the fact that Nintendo are trying to salvage the growth of Sony and MS current generation.

You have made great points for the vs bluray, agreed. They could corner the market on the first console with a 4K disk player, but that's definitely not Nintendo so that's not even a point.

But as far as download only it isn't about not having shelf space, it's a cost benefit from not needing shelf space. If it's a download only console, they would save the costs of needing shelf space. This also applies to the console needing less power and being smaller. All still true if it is a download only console.

I will believe it when I see it.  It's way too late to be launching the NX this year.

Actually.....this would be considered early. Some Wii U owners havent even had a good two years with the console yet. Sony has changed the generation standard from 5-6 years which Nintendo had when they dominated the industry to the 7-10 years Sony initiated upon creating the Playstation.

Who said anything about download only!? Nintendo will definitely not release download only console if huge majority of their sales are from physical games.

Nintendo won't be using SD cards for games (unless they plan on giving their games away for free) but a propriety ROM.
(packaging is also a lot smaller), so shipping costs down and manufacturing costs up probably brings them back to even.

The other advantage of having cartridges is hardware will no longer have moving parts or need to make room for a disc drive.
So a home console around the size of an apple TV will be a possibility with the NX.

Also on a side note if Nintendo is using AMD hardware for the NX then there is little chance of the portable being released this year as AMD don't have a low power SoC that is capable of running a portable (at least not at today's standards) yet.

You are right, even 3DS does not use SD, it uses property ROM.

AMD also has AMR technology, I actually think that ARM SoC (with easy porting from and at x86) provided by AMD will be in handheld and x86 will be in home console.

Sounds like it's for a handheld if that's true.

Yeah AMD has an ARM chip coming out but the first ARM CPU's are being made for servers not sure they have any other plans for them yet.
