While smoke is bad for electronics, I really don't think that is the main culprit here. Seems like a hardware flaw with early consoles.

Pay attention to the thread before you post, please.
Additionally: There are amazing things called "chemical protectants" that Nintendo can apply to the lense to prevent further buildup. I think the concept of adding non-stick film to a glass surface was invented not too long ago... in the 1950s or something like that. No wonder you haven't heard of it yet.

You've never been inside a chain-smoker's PC, have you?

I agree. The fact that launch machines are more vulnerable suggests that the drives in recent models are of higher quality, but I'm sure that's little comfort for the early adopters. This isn't the kind of issue that can be totally resolved, though, only ameliorated.

i have 4 brothers!!!
This is actually funny. I have some colleagues at work who smoke and their Wii would not play SSBB. The rest of us don't smoke and had no problems.

My mom, dad, and brother smoke. That may have caused my Wii to be unable to read Brawl discs.
I dont really believe it, both my parents are pretty heavy smokers and i had no trouble playing my copy of SSBB.
