The issue with flawed conclusions is then have to construct explanations around it rather than reaching it via evidence.

For example, for the flat disc earth I had someone explain that the sun is much closer, and way smaller so it moves above the disc illuminating parts of it at a time.  This makes no sense, but if your concern is to conform reality to a view it shows the lengths people will go to accomodate their preconceptions. 

That is incorrect. Gravity doesn't work if the Earth is flat, currents don't work if the Earth is flat, Volcanos don't work if the Earth is flat, the day/night cycle doesn't work if the Earth is flat.

Also, what do you mean they "have exactly the same effect". What effect?

Tila Tequila was saying this recently on twitter as well. These people just lost their fame, for the most part, since they haven't done anything too relevant in recent years, and they want to draw attention to themselves again.
