Forums - Sony Discussion - is the PS3 the best Gaming Device you can still buy right now? best bang for your buck

I bought the PS3 late last gen and as my last console after Wii and 360. It turned out to be the best investment I made overall in terms of the bang to buck ratio. Now I have the biggest library of games on PS3 thanks in part to the PS+ subscription. Really great console.

Didn't you know that things can be cheaper if you steal them Sprash? Great value and lots of games! just, have to be morally fine with theft and you're good to go.

Lol if going that route for cheap gaming someone could just as easily suggest that you can break into a store and steal a PS4, there we go, it's now a free console! no strings attached.

Also just noticed the PC exclusive listed there, Half Life (on the Xbox/360 and PS2) Star Craft (on the N64) Warcraft (psone) Counter strike (Xbox), Left4dead (everything last gen) Exclusive means... not on other systems.

Oh man that's perfect! by the next time there is a discussion about pc vs. console (regarding price) I just make this list here:

for consoles

every game you want: 0€

console you want: 0€

because you can steal them for free from another person, a new from the store or you get them as present

and for pc

you can't steal digital games

the amount of hardware you have to steal is higher

chances to get caught is higher

verdict: console gaming far far far cheaper than pc gaming ------> FACT!

Aye when you bring stealing software to add value to one side of an argument it just can't really hold up, there is the fact that if you owned every piece of hardware and software involved in the emulation that it would be in a legal gray area rather than just illegal, but even then, the PC isn't offering you something you can't already play.

Also with a Core2Duo and 2gb of Ram I can't even imagine BSNES working 100% on that, and if you venture into CD ISO based console emulation the 80gb HDD would really be a sticking point in the "gaming PC"

Very off topic, but if you have PS+ and you don't have all of the 3 consoles make sure to visit the website for psn store to add the licences for the Vita/PS4 games to your PSN account each month, I got myself a PS4 over the holidays and had the whole last years worth of PSN+ titles waiting for me to download, really takes the sting off buying the new hardware getting a bag o games with it.

-Thrifty gaming advice !

Links! I gave them you can too!

Also in terms of hardware age CEX gives 12month cover on all hardware sold, including of course this potentially 7 year old console, if it was a hardware failure worry you were suggesting with the age.

(CEX are nuts for some of their console prices here in Ireland, can get a used Xbox360 with a controller for almost the same price as a new Pad... it's almost cheaper to buy an Xbox360 just to get a pad and chuck the console in the bin)

edit - Only thing I'd ask hardware wise of the PC you link which costs under €90 including delivery + obviously the controller required to play the games with it (mouse keyboard/gamepad) is that it has hardware capable of playing GTAV comparitively as well as the PS3 can put it out, if there are options out there where that is possible I could really use such a PC for a family member as a gift!

as an example. If you spend more time in research you can get way cheaper. There are videos on youtube where people build 300€ pc with used parts that outperforms ps4.

1.86ghz Core2Duo playing GTAV with 2gb of ram?

omg @ the 80gb Harddrive as a gaming PC? my sides are in space. "Gaming PC", that is amazing.

The install for windows / GTAV wouldn't actually fit on this PC's harddrive my god.

GTAV PC min specs

Minimum:

  • OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2* (*NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Video Card: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)
  • Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
  • HDD Space: 65GB
  • DVD Drive

Literally the only place this meets the spec chart is the DVD drive.

Gta v runs 720p (or even lower?) on lastgen with huge framerate problems. It would run the same omn this machine.

Like I said im not even a pc gamer (just owning an dell ultrabook, i5 ULV CPU (17wattage) and Intel HD 4000.

I can run GTA V ~25fps all low 800x600 on that system. Check youtube for prooves. This linked used system above is way stronger then integrated intel graphics.

Yeah definitely the ps3.

Online is free but if you got ps plus you'd have an insane library for your sub.

 Not at all.

Your Dell has much more power than your exemple. I would be very surprised if you can play GTA V on this used system.

The linked used system has a GEforce 8400GS 512mb, a google will show it as being around 1/4 the power of your onboard Intel HD 4000 chipset in your laptop. What do you think 1/4 the power would do for a game running at 25fps in 800x600 res? Not that it could ever run on that system because of all the other issues with it.

And as I pointed out, GTAV has a 65gb installation on the PC, The PC you linked has an 80GB HDD, actual space available of that is 74.4gb so you have less than 10GB for windows, steam, Do you really think because someone typed "gaming PC" on their auction on Ebay that it is a gaming PC? Not to mention it has 1/4 the min amount of ram required for the game, and a Core2Duo where a Core2Quad is the minimum.
