Forums - Nintendo - You aren't a privileged Nintendo consumer because you own a Wii U

What if those proposed people Nintendo are trying to win over with NX dont want to play ball? Nintendo will again have to rely on their hardcore fans. That's why I believe they still have to cater for the old guard whilst chasing this new audience. It's going to be a tough juggling act. On the topic of the new Zelda game, its 100% coming to Wii U so I dont care if it goes to NX as well, I get to play it on Wii U whilst I weigh up wether NX will be a worthy purchase.

That isn't really what people are worried about. It's more of the: "Well, if Nintendo just gives up on failed consoles. I'm not gonna trust the next console. I'll wait till it actually is a success. Not gonna waste my time, if that one tanks." Or the other extreme option: "Fuck this bullshit. I bought this crap console, for a Zelda game. And I waited extra time, for them to port it to the next system? Why the fuck did I buy this garbage thing then? Screw this shit company. I'm going to Sony."

Anyone even Wii U owners should be happy to see Zelda U on both the Wii U and the NX, Why would anyone want such a high budget game to get 1-2 years worth of sales on the current hardware that have a small userbase  ( yes it will sell good on that userbase as its the hardcore Zelda fans) when the NX could potential keep regular sales going for 5+ years.

Just look at the legs of Twilight Princess on Wii - It's still selling now and its been a Generation and half.

Year       Yearly  Change      Total

2006 1,810,937 N/A        1,810,937

2007 2,302,768 27.2% 4,113,705

2008 1,007,161 -56.3% 5,120,866

2009 351,404        -65.1% 5,472,270

2010 356,547         1.5% 5,828,817

2011 504,067         41.4% 6,332,884

2012 362,223        -28.1% 6,695,107

2013 212,800         -41.3% 6,907,907

2014 148,473         -30.2% 7,056,380

2015 192,847          29.9% 7,249,227

"If" the NX is a combined platform your also bringing in a big fan base from the handheld side that would probably add a few million sales to it just there along with console gamers potentially picking up a Nintendo console since there last N64 or Gamecube purchase and even people picking up a Nintendo console for the first time.

I don't actually think it will be a NX launch title but a first year release which would still give Wii U owners like 6 months earlier to play it and hey even double dip a year after when they get a NX and fancy another Zelda fix.

The GC version would look better. If the game was still produced as long as the Wii one was.

^Boom. Strange how some people can't grasp this simple concept.

Those hardcore fans will be there because Nintendo will make new iterations of their popular IPs. It's a given that Nintendo will make those games, so there's no good reason for concern.

Ignoring the Wii's casual base for a second. The Wii U doesn't even have 20 million sales. So obiouisly a fair bit of the people, during the GC days, that stuck with the company. Walked away and went to another console. Or just gave up all together. If Nintendo does something very annoying or stupid again, with NX. More people will give up. Then what? They have no userbase to fall back on. Which is happening with Wii U. I'm in that category. I've bought every single system and handheld to date. Wii U was my last straw to trust Nintendo on first impressions. I will not purchase NX whatever. Intill I see positive results.

I don't mind zelda u on NX as long as nintendo keeps their promise and they release it on the wii u

What you said about us Wii U owners not being a part of Nintendo potentially losing money if we abandoned them isn't entirely true. I'm a part of their solution, too. As, I also own a PS4. The casual audience have gone to their phones & tablets & aren't coming back. The market they're in is the hardcore gaming market. I'm in that & will buy third party games for the NX if it's a hybrid. I'm a hardcore Nintendo fan who bought the Wii U for Mario Kart & Smash Bros. I also have Splatoon & every main Mario game on Wii U & 3DS. But, I also like GTA, COD, Nba 2K, Star Wars Battlefront, etc. I would love that stuff on a hybrid handheld, too. Instead of being forced to use my TV. I am a hardcore Nintendo fan who they owe more too & am part of their solution.

What about those 15,000 Japanese consumers who bought the 64DD on the promise that they'd get Ura Zelda (Master Quest) for the peripheral? Instead, the game came out on the GC bonus disc for preordering Wind Waker. You can bet those 15,000 people boycotted those free bonus discs, and as a result, Nintendo never fully recovered.

A lot of you are missing his point, the casuals and such never walked away in fact many of them are still around on 3DS as Tomodachi Life showed, Nintendo just stopped catering to them this gen just to cater to gamers like yourself as they did during the GC era. Many of them would come back if they started catering to them again, the 3DS retained a few games that catered to them like AC, Tomodachi Life and even big hitters like Pokemon appeals to them but the Wii U practically flushed all games aimed at them down the drain in favour of an approach more geared to the so called core group and it resulted in another GC show.

Think of this if NX is a hybrid platform Pokemon NX alone would bring in possibly more sales then Wii U has in total right now, AC NX could bring in a total of half the amount of sales Wii U has now because these titles have far wider appeal. He's right in that you as a hardcore fan would either get NX in the long run or be replaced by 5 or so other gamers if they had stuck to catering to everyone.

I just hope that the Wii U's failure doesn't make Nintendo double down on their "we have to be a special snowflake to succeed" mentality.  I just want a platform that does everything the others do with an added bit of innovation that won't add 75-100 dollars to the total cost of the console, be so different that playing it without a special input device/screen set-up would be impossible or make it harder to get 3rd party ports.

I just don't really get this... What GC fans felt they were betrayed by the success of the Wii being non-gaming people? Nintendo still gave games the core audience wanted on the Wii, and those turned out to be successful as well. Gamecube may have not been so successful, but Ninten still gave their base good games. Ninten has been treating their base well (for the most part). And most people I think are okay with Zelda U being cross gen. Not many will feel betrayed if they can still play it on the Wii U, and if Ninten continues to make the games their fans want, as well as new excellent titles, on the NX then fans will buy it, and not because they are sheep, haha... Honestly I don't know what kind of Ninten fan you are trying to describe. I don't know many who are like that...

And who considers pleasing non-consumers offensive, and how is that even possible..? I also feel the Ninten base feels they deserve something not because they are fans, but because they bought the console, and that goes with any base. When you buy something, you're trusting the hardware maker to provide the software and services to warrant the purchase. If that isn't reached, then you just lose trust, which hurts that company. That's how I feel why the Ninten base feels it deserves to get as much as they can.

Bottom line: Being a Wii U owner may not make us the most important, but we are still pretty important. If the fans didn't buy the console, who else would? And I don't see how they can't please the Ninten fans and other consumers as well. They can very well still do that.

The concept that if it were GC exclusive it would of sold more on the GC but in the long run cost them millions of sales?. Yea it really is a simple concept.
