80% of their market? Is that number still relevant over the past couple of years?

Answer the question, why would we exclude their strongest market from a discussion about them being mainstream?

It's literally the same thing as asking if Playstation is mainstream then responding no because of Vita sales.

Because their strongest market (as you call it) is dead now. Nintendo knows that, which is why they're getting into mobile gaming and won't make a dedicated handheld device ever again.

It's dead, that's why it has sold close to 60 million. That's why it sold nearly 8 million in its 5th year on the market.

There is no way in hell Nintendo doesn't release a successor to a device that will sell 65-70 million. Nothing you are saying makes any sense.

Becasue dedicated handheld gaming isnt mainstream, at least not in the US and Europe. Thats why it would be silly to bring up Vita, becasue for all intents and purposes that is not the MAIN show, its home consoles, its always been like that. So we can brag about portable sales all we want that woudl be like bragging winning a high shcool basketball championship but getting destroyed in the NBA, imho

That's a strong denial. sales are there to prove it.

The NX is probably going to perform much better than the WiiU, but I don't know about the mainstream part..

I would argue that Nintendo has always been the most mainstream publisher. But in terms of software...everyone knows mario, zelda and DK before random COD guy, solid snake or cloud. Heck look at all the fanboys on these forums!

Where they are at a lose in my opinion is hardware and lack of new ip and third party. I feel like most people i talk to love the old nintendo but have either grown out off, lost interest, fed up or dont want to take the resk on them any more but can spot out a Nintendo character and game before any other. I myself love old school Nintendo but have grown apart from them to experience different games, diff ip, more variety and better hardware.
