Forums - Nintendo - Is Nintendo going to be mainstream again?

I mean they're planning to start doing things with mobile, so that's a good step in trying to appeal towards the general consumer.

Unless they make a lot of changes from Wii U to Nx, and if Nintendo doesn't get all this third party support, I think the NX will end up as nothing more than a niche console, but we'll have to see how things play out.

nintendo shouldnt change their core philosophy when it comes to game development and stuff. if being mainstream involves making them more like sony or microsoft or ea or activision or ubisoft.. then i think we can all safely say that it is a bad idea... and stuff and junk.

Not all of us.

I don't think it would be a bad idea at all if they became more like Sony in terms of hardware design, marketing, diversity of genres. But hey, that's just me, looking at PS4's sales versus Wii U's.

well everybody but you then

Depends on what you mean by Mainstream.

If you mean mainstream in modern gaming culture. They would either need to become Multiplat (Not Going to happen) or change their company stance/attitude toward gaming (unlikely to happen).

Their image aligned with Gaming in the early generations after they saved Namek from Frieza the gaming Industry from crashing, but after the whole Androids and Cell thing sixth gen, they came back in Majun Buu saga 7th gen and well...then GT eight gen happened.

Actually, I think a lot of people would rather the Wii U had matched PS4 in hardware, marketing, and audience appeal.

lol ok well you completely just changed the argument right there. i didnt say anything about matching the PS4 in all those respects. of course i would love it if nintendo matched sony in marketing and audience appeal. hardware is too vague, that needs to be debated. where youre mistaken somewhere is that i even said that in the first place and well.. you can read my original comment and see that for yourself lol

Actually, I have not changed my argument at all.

In my first post I specified hardware, marketing, and diverse appeal, and I have stuck to those criteria.

lol what? your post has nothing to do with it. you said "not all of us" to what i said, to which i replied everyone but you then. your little specification has nothing to do with what i was saying when i said i dont want them to be like sony, microsoft, ea, ubisoft, and activision.

And you are very wrong if you think nobody wants Nintendo to be more like Sony.

I think Nintendo should just continue making the games they make, *though* I would add with the caveat in the 90s they did quite well having a mix of Western and Japanese games (Perfect Dark, Conker, Killer Instinct, Star Wars, Ken Griffey Jr. MLB, Kobe Bryant NBA Courtside, Starcraft 64, Banjo-Kazooie, GoldenEye, Jet Force Gemini, etc.).

I think I would implore them to not make the NX too toy-like. Make the same games, but keep the platform almost separate from the games, in the sense  that the NX shouldn't be a "Mario box".

One of the problems I think Nintendo is running into is they're too prone to their toy-roots and are making toy-like game machines, and that just doesn't fly in this day and age. Keep the games the same, but "NX" I think it would be better for Nintendo if it was almost like a third-party platform (of course Nintendo still makes it) that just happened to have all the Nintendo games as an exclusive.
