I would love that. Don't get me wrong, I love my nintendo systems and games, but if every company published their games on pc, gaming would be much better. Imagine playing X at max setting, 60 fps, and 1440p. I would be sooo happy.

Knowing Nintendo, X would remain native 720p and locked at 30fps to give you the true experience it had on Wii U. None the less I agree totally. It would be great.

I can't see Nintendo publishing for PC anytime soon but I can see the NX being like a closed version of steam that you can only access through Nintendo hardware. Eliminates the idea of console generations and with a Nintendo account, your games follow you no matter which Nintendo device you choose to purchase in the future.

In the scenario where Nintendo gets out of the hardware business, it's not difficult at all for me to see them putting their games on PC. I imagine they would have their own Steam-like client and storefront.

Imagine the games released in broken beta stages and thousands of people who cant play certain games with their friends because they dont meet the minimum requirements. Oh and imagine the major companies folding from rampant piracy. Im so excited.

Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda!!!!

If Nintendo were to stop making hardware I'd very much prefer them to go PC exclusive. Then I would have all Nintendo games in one place instead of having them split between PlayStation and Xbox (because let's face it, both Sony and MS would moneyhat the crap out of Nintendo, and Nintendo would accept the bribes). Even without hardware of their own I'm pretty sure they'd keep investing into the upcoming Nintendo account service and PC would be the superior place for building that platform.

One of the things I love and respect about Nintendo is their innovation and self respect. I can't imagine what it'd be like for the proud members of the board to suck it up and pay apple or who ever 30% of their profits. Can you? I don't know what Playstation charges but given their tumultous past I can't imagine that would go well either.

What about the personal computer? Steam doesn't pay microsoft anything. Steam makes it's own peripherals. If worst came to worst (which it won't imo *Knocks on wood*) I can easily imagine Nintendo making a portal for Home Computers that lets you buy every game from a Nintendo platform, from first to 3rd party, and have it work with every future Nintendo peripheral. Just like Steam Link you could still play on your TV with new Nintendo hardware in your hands and all the profits go to Nintendo.

Despite your level of affinity to Steam, can you see how this benefits us?

Nintendo has strong enough IP and library for the company to not be in that desperate of a situation for a long time

remember Nintendo is far from in a bad spot economically. They actually have a lot of money in the bank (unlike the likes of Sony).  If anything, down the road I see them attempting their own mobile dedicated or home computer dedicated device

it does seem in general gaming it sort of headed in a collision course with home computers, so I think its pretty obvious that if their video game dedicated systems do not fair better (at least the home versions) then they will just try and make a truly mixed device along the lines of a computer that can be comfortably used to browse the web and connect to televisions for gaming

obviously this sort of technology already sort of exists through streaming from one device to another, but I see more of a smaller device that can easily be moved to attach to a regular computer moniter or a TV, depending on use

we'll see though

they're doing fine with their toys and 3DS, and apparently are looking to be way more active with potentially TV/movies, amusement parks, licensing, etc. all they really need to knock out of the park now is their next home console. which, if they go back to a more traditional controller, shouldn't be hard

I don't see why they haven't already struck a deal to release a legacy collection on steam, like the first Super Mario Bros through Mario Sunshine.Do the same with every series and go all the way up to the Gamecube (excluding Wii games for several reasons, but control scheme obviously is the biggest hurdle).

These are games people are downloading for emulators anyways, may as well collect on people who prefer not to break the law, or enjoy not having to worry about downloading virus' and working with bios, ect on emulators.

If they leave hardware their software will go everywhere

Either that or Microsoft will offer them a mountain of money to work exclusively with them.

Unfortunately it's unlikely that would happen. X is a game that's beautifully optimised for the system it's on. There are very, very few games on PC that are well-optimised, and it would be optimistic to think that Nintendo would lead in that field. Not to mention with the specific case of X the Gamepad features would actually be missed! Be careful what you wish for, or you might just get it.

Anyway, on the question in the topic, I couldn't vote on the poll because the answer is "all of the above". If Nintendo were to go third party they surely wouldn't limit themselves to one particular market. I think their focus would be getting a foothold in the console market though.

Very, very few?, care to give us the list?.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
