Wii U replacement can't come soon enough, imo. The Wii U is the first Nintendo console, that made me not want to own it.

So you wnted the Wii, but not Wii U?

Considering Wii U is on track to sell less than 1/5 the hardware & software of Wii, I would say a lot of people wanted a Wii but not a Wii U.

its been a real annoyance watching people live their lives as if this NX thing is releasing 2016, end of story. look, guys, it isnt happening. if anything, we might see a 3DS replacement. but the wii u? definitely not getting replaced this year. did you guys know that nintendo is still selling this console for $300? when in history was a console $300 the year it got replaced? never, that's when. nintendo is making money off the wii u right now, and they will all year. 2017 might be a good year to replace the wii u. right now, nintendo is still showing incredible support on all of its wii u software, and you guys honestly think that this console is going to be dropped by the end of the year? it isnt happening. i have declared that it isnt happening, and that is the end of it.

discuss.

Not touching the rest, it has been discussed to death already (especially by me); but that part is not so hard to disprove. The PS3 was still 299 when the PS4 came out, only a little over two years ago (with one basic slim unit being cheaper, the main 500GB model was still 299, it can be compared to Wii U Premium, which has sold the most by a ridiculous margin).

Opinions are fine, but what you're saying there is simply false.

Yep, I also don't think the Wii U is getting replaced this year. It would be too early to adequately give the new home console a strong launch lineup of games, especially if the rumor that developers had just received the dev kits in October is true. It takes about 2-3 yrs. for most good AAA games to be developed which, if that rumor were true, would mean that good AAA games would be ready around fall of 2017 to 2018. So I think a release of a home console before fall 2017 wouldn't be in Nintendo's best interest and probably not happening.

Some seem to forget that the only reason the NX was mentioned in Spring last year, was to allay the fears of those who might think that announcement of the partnership with DeNA would be signalling a move away from their core focus of dedicated gaming consoles.

Nintendo didn't want to announce the NX that early, but they had to. Those who predict a Nov 2016 release should take this fact into account.

Finally, somebody else gets it. Iwata only mentioned NX to put an immediate stop to doom mongers that would think Nintendo are going moble only or third party.

We will get more details on NX this year, but I also believe it would be for 2017. And the games at launch and 3rd party games would be much better and in line with what 3rd party developers need for easier porting.

Builing a new game/new IP just over a year with the dev kit would be very unlikely but providing it to third party developers is the most likely scenario in which if they make a x86 based hardware and its easy to port to you could be seeing yearly franchise and other multiplats at launch time. I'm fairly sure the NX will laucnh with the likes of Fifa, Madden and COD and theres nothing to stop a large ammount of Japanese third party developers getting there 2016/2017 PS4/Xbox games there planning to release ported for a NX launch title or within 2-3 months afetr the launch period.

I agree. While some people are arguing about the Wii U lineup, i certainly don't see an NX one either. Sure, you can dish out the argument that none can really be announced at this point, but you have to take into consideration that a lot of Nintendo's studios are busy with projects for current gen systems. The only possible games at this point that could come for NX are Pikmin 4, of which we haven't been told what platform its on, and Zelda U, which is simply from the suspicious delays. However, Zelda games tend to be delayed often so you'd have to tread lightly there.

But really, any of us could be right or wrong, but Nintendo hasn't said a word in-terms of any details for NX, so all we can do and should do is wait patiently until they do so.

My personal feeling is the central NX hardware model is a portable console (it can function as both, hence it's a new type of game platform) with a processor in the same ball park as things like the Tegra X1 and Apple A9X chip, which are powerful but not actually that expensive for the processor.

This model they are aiming for November 2016, whether they can make that who knows, but I think they are trying hard because Wii U and 3DS (at this stage) sales are both mediocre quite honestly and they probably don't want to waste another fiscal year with just those two. 3DS needs to be replaced even if you don't think the Wii U does.

Other more specific models (ie: maybe a home only console) may come later as 2017 and even 2018 go along but these will simply play the same games as the NX releasing in 2016 does, just maybe with better graphics (for the dedicated console). Or they may just ditch the console and go with that "supplementary add-on" that they patented for more power.

You thinking the supplementary add-on be for Wii U?  Because if so, I honestly can't see what prot they use on the Wii U to get data trasnfer rates fast enough to make a difference.

I was more thinking that since Nintendo atm is between geenrations, They would release new hardware that is perhaps PS4 level. Then the supplimantery box could be a $200 addon that boosts it to say perhaps 4K gfx or even support VR properly.

The box in theory could come out whenever. WIth x86 architecure it be scalable like those  alienware laptop with those addon video card boxes. to run in SLI mode

3DS replacement = end of the Wii U anyway.

So it doesn't matter then does it. Nintendo will have to throw all major development towards a 3DS successor, which will have graphics probably rivalling the Wii U itself.

If the 3DS successor fails, that's basically curtains for Nintendo as a hardware manufacturer so they can't just fart out a 3DS successor with lukewarm support while still juggling the Wii U.

So that theory doesn't fly at all. Oh and by the way, the reason Wii had such shit support in 2011 and 2012, was because Nintendo was making 3DS games ... so that isn't the first time this has happened either (and the 3DS successor will require more dev time/resources as it almost certainly should be capable of some pretty impressive high end 3D graphics).

Even with GameCube, Nintendo basically gave up on the system with internal support after 2004 ... why? Because they were working on the Nintendo DS.

you need some lessons in economics. nintendo was starting on wii u games in 2011 and 2012, don't come pulling out of nowhere that development for 3ds and ds stopped wii and gc games.

I think a lot of it depends on when they will release Wii U Zelda. If it's coming near the holiday season, then I highly doubt Nintendo will put out a new console to take away attention from it. That is unless they decide to put the game on both console and announce a simultaneous release of the game for both of them, but there's been no indication of that yet.

Even so, I don't expect a new home console from Nintendo until next year at the earliest.
