I dunno if it's so much to bolster the library per se as it is that there's plenty of good games on the Wii U that were criminally overlooked because the system didn't sell well.
Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Xenoblade X, etc. etc. that I think Nintendo would want to double dip on with the NX.
Like 75-80% of Nintendo hardware owners this gen were 3DS-only (no Wii U) ... that's a lot of people that didn't get a chance to play these games.

if they want to play them, they can buy a wii u. they have every chance in the world. nintendo isnt going to "remaster" any game that is on the wii u for their next console. theyre going to make NEW games that are going to take advantage of the NEW hardware.

They're never going to buy a Wii U.
Nintendo probably spent a fairly hefty budget on some of these games too as HD development is not cheap (Xenoblade was in development for like 3 1/2+ years alone).
Sure NX will have NEW games, but the universe isn't going to implode on itself if some people get to play some games they missed out on Wii U. Wii U is a very niche console, very few people bought it, that's simply the reality of the situation and Nintendo put a lot of effort into many of the Wii U software titles.
Console remasters are likely to be a staple of all system libraries going forward anyway, we're seeing it all the time on the PS4 and XB1 too and Nintendo is doing it as well (really they have been since the SNES days so it's nothing that new).
