Forums - Movies & TV - Jar Jar Binks actor interview (his experience during the making and after the release of Episode I)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuoLcN_fK74

- Ahmed Best who played the fan favorite Star Wars character Jar Jar Binks talks about his experience acting for the movie

- whether he stole the job from Michael Jackson

- how he felt after the backlash behind his character

- receiving an apology from marketing for fucked up Jar Jar Binks merchandise, etc

A really nice watch for Star Wars fans.

Star Wars Episode VIII to be "much darker" in tone

Michael Jackson could have acted the role of Jar Jar Binks

Lolipop Jar Jar Binks.... Ugggggggh...!!!

Never had any big issues with Jar Jar, other than the CGI (which was what sank most of the movie). Great interview with a lovely ending!

Technically you had to french-kiss that thing in order to eat it, what the fuck was marketing thinking?

I didn't have problems with Jar Jar either. I am not a fan of the guy but never felt a need to see him die either.

Didn't know they actually made disgusting merchandise, at least we had cool action figures or lightsabers back then.

As a kid I liked Jar Jar a lot but anyway, he seems like a nice guy! At least he hasnt turned to the dark side like poor Jake Lloyd v.v

Actually Jake Lloyd has turned to the drug side, not dark side. xP

I remember very distinctly when the first critics reviews started to hit the internet and some of them were negative, my heart kinda sank.

And then when I saw it on opening night, the first 5-10 minutes with just Jedi stuff was cool and I was like "man these critics were just wrong, this is fun" ... but then Jar-Jar showed up and it was like ... being in a nightmare that wouldn't stop.

The absolute low point was when he went "HOW WUDE!" and my buddy turned to me and said "they're copying Full House" ... as in copying phrases from little Mary Kate Olsen from a sitcom and it was just .... ugh. I had hyped this film for months to my friends and yeah ... I remember just everyone walking out of the theater, it was like 3 AM and no one said a word (haha).

Even then I was so in denial that I had to see it again just to make sense of it.

I feel bad for Ahmed Best though, he seems like a cool guy and it wasn't his fault, he was just doing his job. If I was directing Episode VIII or IX I'd offer him a role of a cooler small character like a bounty hunter or something to kinda redeem himself.

Jar Jar wasn't even the worst character in Episode I though ... Boss Nass ... like what the the holy fuck was that neck shaking/slobbering moment supposed to be about?

Saving this for later: should be a good watch.

In other words, the dark side.
