I remember very distinctly when the first critics reviews started to hit the internet and some of them were negative, my heart kinda sank.
And then when I saw it on opening night, the first 5-10 minutes with just Jedi stuff was cool and I was like "man these critics were just wrong, this is fun" ... but then Jar-Jar showed up and it was like ... being in a nightmare that wouldn't stop.
The absolute low point was when he went "HOW WUDE!" and my buddy turned to me and said "they're copying Full House" ... as in copying phrases from little Mary Kate Olsen from a sitcom and it was just .... ugh. I had hyped this film for months to my friends and yeah ... I remember just everyone walking out of the theater, it was like 3 AM and no one said a word (haha).
Even then I was so in denial that I had to see it again just to make sense of it.
I feel bad for Ahmed Best though, he seems like a cool guy and it wasn't his fault, he was just doing his job. If I was directing Episode VIII or IX I'd offer him a role of a cooler small character like a bounty hunter or something to kinda redeem himself.
Jar Jar wasn't even the worst character in Episode I though ... Boss Nass ... like what the the holy fuck was that neck shaking/slobbering moment supposed to be about?
