Forums - Movies & TV - Star Wars Episode VIII to be "much darker" in tone

- John Boyega who played everyone's favorite new Star Wars character FN-2187 / Finn, talked to Vogue very vaguely about the next film, but gave some idea of the tone the next Star Wars film will have

- he said about the script:

"It's great. Much darker, but we're very excited."

Rian Johnson is set to co-write and direct the next film

Has your mind gone wild with possibilities as mine did?

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

How? it's a Disney movie, they can't make it more dark than what they did the last one... (Trying not to spoil)

Kylo Ren could always make use of dark eyeliner for character development:

Well that's good. My only gripe with 7 was it played too much like 4. My only concern is by dark they mean Empire... however I don't think that'll be the case. Actually you know what? It wasn't even that it was too much like 4, it was that there weren't enough new ships introduced XD I hope 8 has more new ships

let me guess,.. kylo ren ends up being rey's father.

LOL, no thanks. Maybe Luke can use some eyeliner for that wrinkly face.

Empire was very dark and best Star Wars film made. Following that means VIII will show the antagonists as a formidable force that wins. I'm curious what this could mean for Rey.

Oh god, more Star Wars marketing crap plastered everywhere.

Kill me. The majority of the movies weren't even that good. Ugh.

The Empire strikes back....again, part 2.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!

I think TFA was more a mixture of A New Hope and Empire than what most people say it being a remake of 4. If you think about it :

1) learning Solo is Kylo's father
2) Solo falling to his death in a similar fashion to Luke at the end of Empire
3) Rey leaving everything to unite with a jedi master on another planet to save the galaxy
4) Kylo leaving to complete his training as he wasn't ready yet (Like wasn't ready either when he lost to Vader)
5) Fin wanting to leave but his best friend in danger bringing him back just like Solo at the beginning of Empire.

I also think people underestimate how dark TFA was compared to new hope:

1) Han and Leia having broken up
2) their son having turned evil and gone off on a killing spree after being recruited by a genocidal evil empire
3) Han dying (Obi Wan died half way through a new hope, Han has been with us since A New Hope)
4) Kylo potentially being lost for good after killing his dad

Makes you think how they can make it darker unless they kill more characters. I hope and pray they don't make the third part of the trilogy like Return with Rey fighting Kylo and turning Kylo over to together defeat Snoke.

I can see:

1) Leia being killed since she lost Solo and was the one who convinced him to bring their son back
2) I can see Chewie dying
3) I can see Fin being captured and Rey having to rescue him
4) Long shot, but I think episode 8 might be a bit of episode 5 and episode 3. I can see Kylo flashbacks on how things went wrong and what dove him to the darkside and how Luke and Solo stepped in to stop him.
