It will be Game Over. The NX has next to no chance to beat PS4 or X1. If Nintendo wants to have a sigificant market share, it needs adult games, casual players and strong 3rd party support. Or a real mobile only strategy which does not exist.

A lot of you guys have responded saying that the NX doesn't have to dominate to be successful and you are right. But it certainly can not sell as bad as the Wii U. THIS is what I am defining as a fail. If you think that the NX could take the Xbox One or PS4 thats fine. but if they ship another Wii U in terms of sales, what then?

The thread does not say that it has to do PS4 numbers. It just can't do Wii U numbers.

I don't think they need to dominate to do extremely well.  I'd be very happy with Nintendo selling 35 million consoles and 50 million handhelds.  They could be very profitable with this type of sales and likely get more 3rd party ports. They aren't going to come out with a PS4/Xbone competitor and dominate this gen. But they could come out with one and start chipping away at this market and set themselves up to be a geniune player versus PS5 and Xnext.

But, it only sales bad because it fail to support games such as uncharted, Devil may cry, , etc. People view it as a childish console. But I think it can dominate Xbox one at least. It has the potential.

Also since Nintendo is branching out with the continued push of Amiibo figurines/cards, starting to make mobile apps, opening theme park attractions, getting involved with films, Quality of Life products focused on health & education, plus the increase of merchandising that accompanies these things, there is less of a focus on all their profits coming from gaming meaning they can take more risks with their core business.

 

Just quoting this to mark it up, as this is pretty much in line with what I said in the other thread about what could be considered as success; 150M/5y, meaning average of 30M/y units of hardware sold.

NX is a platform, so placing it in direct competition with something it does not compete directly with is a little silly.

If they ship another Wii U in terms of sales, it's because Nintendo have failed in making interesting software. When it's games developer we're talking about, it's kind of game over at that point.
