It lives, and lived in this thread. One example is someone who expected a new conference to be like E3 2008 rather than a good one.

Then doubtless you could point out this fiendish culprit!!! All I can recall is someone countering the specious rhetoric of pointing to the worst part of the digital events as representative of the whole with equally specious rhetoric pointing to (one of) the worst part(s) of the live conferences as representative of the whole.

If they announce their new hardware at E3, then yeah, they SHOULD go for the press conference. But if it launches this year, they SHOULD announce it earlier than E3.

bet: lost

For the NX I would kinda like a live event but over time I've been fond of their digital press events more so than their past live ones.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

No. That someone was pointing that just like E3 conferences, ND has also padding and waste time. It was not exclusive to live conferences.

I personally don't think Nintendo has a choice in this matter if they want the NX to succeed. They need to get this thing out into the eyes of everyone. That includes the press who are far more likely to report and deliver news on the NX if it's a press conference. The Nintendo Directs appeal more to the Nintendo fans are hardcore gamers. News papers like the New York Times and Huffington Post will post that stuff in their papers and you'll see it on the news if it's mind blowing enough. The NX will go noticed with press and people will know about it. Unless Nintendo just wants Kotaku, IGN, Gamespot, and EB Games/Gamestop to advertise the NX in advance. They really don't have a choice unless they are so limited in supply that they only want to sell the system to Nintendo fans and hardcore gamers. Sure the digital events are fun for gamers, but from a business perspective. It doesn't make any sense. Directs should be left for the little news. I miss all very special magical moments that Nintendo provided to E3, like the Zelda orchestra, Miyamoto coming on stage with the master sword, Reggie kicking ass and taken names. Oh god the amazing times Nintendo had and the memes that followed. Except for 2008.... that never happened 0.0

You may be right here. It does seem that the live press conferences get more coverage from the mainstream media than the digital events do. Which is somewhat odd since it seems that the digital events get more buzz on social media. Anyway, they probably should do a live conference for the NX unveiling, even though I still think they could get their message across in a digital event.

Consoles reveals need an audience and need to be sold to the press (especially the non gaming ones), So a press conference maybe with a Direct for 3DS/Wii U news and tibits makes the most sense.

If they announce NX and don't have a press conference they're shooting themselves in the foot.

I hope they do, right now I only have a morbid curiosity about what's going to happen.

Probably both a live conference and a digital event.
