I personally don't think Nintendo has a choice in this matter if they want the NX to succeed. They need to get this thing out into the eyes of everyone. That includes the press who are far more likely to report and deliver news on the NX if it's a press conference. The Nintendo Directs appeal more to the Nintendo fans are hardcore gamers. News papers like the New York Times and Huffington Post will post that stuff in their papers and you'll see it on the news if it's mind blowing enough. The NX will go noticed with press and people will know about it. Unless Nintendo just wants Kotaku, IGN, Gamespot, and EB Games/Gamestop to advertise the NX in advance. They really don't have a choice unless they are so limited in supply that they only want to sell the system to Nintendo fans and hardcore gamers. Sure the digital events are fun for gamers, but from a business perspective. It doesn't make any sense. Directs should be left for the little news. I miss all very special magical moments that Nintendo provided to E3, like the Zelda orchestra, Miyamoto coming on stage with the master sword, Reggie kicking ass and taken names. Oh god the amazing times Nintendo had and the memes that followed. Except for 2008.... that never happened 0.0
