Forums - Gaming - Halo 2 vs. Halo 3 comparison

not much difference, but w/e. I don't really care for the games anyway.

wow.... is it just me?

i expected a HUGE jump in the graphics department...

im being honest ..im just not impressed...

how much of the 360 power is being used 50%?

maybe the final version will look better?????

this is just a coat of shiney-ness and smoother textures. the smooth texture's you can get with halo 2 PC..

ouch microsoft...

"Maybe Bungie went with the "gameplay over graphics" philosophy, you do support that philosophy don't you Weezy?  I guess not or you wouldn't be slamming the graphics for it.?

 LOL

ya this is the 360 we are talking about ..ps3 and 360 should have "mind blowing" graphics...we arent talking about nintendo here..

microsoft-"lets go gameplay over graphics this time"

hahaha,no.

let me get my axe...

This is the bad thing about a beta. Everyone thinks the game can get no better so they judge it like it's the final version. I think the graphics are solid. They could leave them how they are as long as there are no framerate issues and the multiplayer is lag free.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

im dissadpointed in the visuals in the beta but its very fun. still its a beta the final game will look alittle better than this. but i expected more from a thrid genereation 360 game espeaciially one made by microsoft. Perfect Dark Zero looks better than this when that game was in beta form. Bungie should delay its september date to november to get extra polish

I've seen pre-alpha builds of games on the PS3 that look better than this, namely Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

If you're talking about the R&C screens that came out a few months ago then you've got to be kidding.

As far as I know neither Drake or Ratchet has had any screens from pre-alpha come out. A game in that state does not look like Halo 3, that is its only the basic engine to start getting thing hammered out. Few pre-alpha builds have textures, let alone at a high resolution. Developers practically never release Pre-alpha screens publicly because it looks very little like the final product, and few consumers would understand this.

I think the fact that this is a beta escapes most people. Basically, you have the levels all worked out along with the AI, as well as any kinks in the engine and physics worked out, then you can see how much power you have left. This extra power is then invested into graphics to "tighten them up" and make the game extra pretty. But this last step is only done once everything else is in place since you dont want to limit the more important parts of the game. One of the developers from Bungie officially stated that the beta is all about performance now, and optimizations will take place later to improve the graphics. Most games make a significant jump from beta to final product, and if you want I can dig up plenty of screens to prove this.

Another thing that gets overlooked is how this is multiplayer. Look at Ranbow Six if you want to see how vast the difference between single and multiplayer can be. Halo 2 had this problem in spades, and so does Resistance.

@Legend11, dont you know that only Nintendo can innovate?

You guys act as if Halo 3 is finished. It's not finished. If it were finished, then it would be out right now. There's another 9 months or so before it gets released. What do you think is going to happen in those 9 months? You think Bill Gates is going to scratch his ass with a back scratcher, getting drunk with his Microsoft Buddies, playing Mario Party on the Wii? No, they are going to add the finishing touches, and many other things, within those 9 months. Wait until it's here, and if it still looks like that, then you can complain. Never-the-less, even the Beta version looks much nicer than Halo 2. The environments are much brighter, and aren't as depressingly as in Gears of War. Gears of War looks nicer, but not that much nicer. In fact, Halo 3 beta looks as much nicer than Halo 2, as Gears of War does than Halo 3 beta. But, once Halo 3 is finished, it must look nicer than Gears of War, because not only are both games developed by Microsoft, but Halo 3 is going to be at least 1 year newer. If it stays the same, this goes to show you how much better the Xbox 360 really is compared to the Nintendo Wii. Since the Wii slightly more powerful than the Xbox, and Halo 2 looks identical to Halo 3, then I guess that means the power of Xbox 360 over the Wii and Xbox may be slightly exaggerated. Halo 2, and Super Mario Galaxy are going to look better on a big flat screen television than Halo 3 will on an older, fat television from the 90's.
