Honestly, those who really want this game to fail are only the selected few. Because it only makes sense that the more successful Tomb Raider is on its current Xbox offerings will only help it be more successful on the PS4. The more money this games makes, the more money SquareEnix can potentially pump into the PS4 version. And that can only be a good thing, right?

That's not how these things work. In fact the PS4 may have been the primary development platform and development on the game could have been completed when the X1 version was released. It could just be sitting there, waiting for the X1 exclusivity contract to expire before it's sent to Sony for certification. We're not sure. If that was the case, the only work that would need to be done over the next year was ensuring that any bug fixes that were made over the release of the X1 game were applied to the PS4 build as well.

Even if that is not the case (I'm not sure how likely the above scenario is), I highly doubt the budget for the PS4 port is affected in any way by Xbox One sales. Square Enix is a major publisher with many revenue streams. They're not waiting on money to roll in from this game before they can afford to work on the PS4 version, nor would they pour extra money into enhancing the PS4 version. That wouldn't make any sense to add all of these additional features or enhancements to just one platform. If there is going to be any enhancements or additional content for the PS4 version, it'll likely be no more than including DLC in some kind of "Game of the Year" edition for the PS4 on release, similar to how the PS4 and X1 versions of Tomb Raider were the "definitive edition"s. This version might also get published on X1 when the PS4 version releases. Again, this would not be affected by X1 edition sales, as Square Enix is trying to maximize the revenue in releasing a year old game on a new platform. If they want to sell the game at a new game price then they will have to add additional content on top of the "base" X1 version.

Too many "what ifs" in your argument.  So you don't know it things work in this case.

My only "what if" is that the PS4 port could already be made.

The other part about the PS4 version not depending at all on revenue of the X1 version has no "what ifs". That's a fact.

That's too big of a "what if" to stake any substantiated claims.

I think you and WoodenPints misunderstood actually. I said :

-TR launch was a failure (not even in NPD, behind Just Dance...).

-TR was discounted in December (so, after the failed launch chronologically, not a cause/effect judgment).

-The discounts of this Christmas season surely gave a good boost to the game sales, maybe at the expense of the game's profitability.

-Ms announce "okay" sales numbers, nothing good.

So, can you explain how are the Battlefront or Halo 4 discounts relevant here?

1.  why was it a failure.  What were you expecting.  Do you think MS thought it was going to sell 2mil+ by 2016? Why would you think that?

2. What discounts be specific.  Does Uncharted collection going bundled for $299 not count as a sold game?  It was given away for free after all.

3. Yes it was okay. nothing good nor bad.

1. Yes. When put into perspective, the intention to move consoles and counterweight UC4, it indeed was - let's say - underwhelming. Looking at the sales numbers of the inferior predecessor and the xboxes sold during holidays, then there is no indicator that it was going as planned. What's well over one mio Nov-Dec?

TR 2013 has sold well over a mio on ps3 within five weeks. One console.

3. Microsofts strategy, did it pay off? TROTTR didn't sell good. None of the big X1 holiday (timed)exclusives sold stellar. Uncharted4 release was moved to 2016.

Would it have sold more not being a timed exclusive? Doubt it. Would it have sold more not being a timed exclusive and not in a window this crowded? Definitely.

I just pointed out it's a possibility, that both versions could have been developed concurrently. That's all. I'm not stating this did happen, I'm not even stating it's very likely it happened.

Regardless of any of that, Square Enix is not some small time indie developer or publisher that has to worry about where they're going to get funds for their next project. SE has more than enough money allocated for the PS4 port, and budget for that PS4 port is completely independant of the sales of the X1 port. But here you are stating that one depends on the other, which clearly must be based on experience. So let me ask you this - Name one other major publisher that released a timed exclusive and the sales of that timed exclusive either negatively affected the later released title as a result of poor sales (the port was worse as a result), or positively affected the later released titles as a result of better sales (the port was better as a result).

Naysayers should just move on. People called the franchise doomed with the MS deal. The game was always expect to have legs after launch and there also the rise of digital purchase. Rise of Tomb Raider wasn't the big system seller for Xbox One but everyone that though it was going to be just doesn't understand the industry. This is a good marketing deal that paid off for Microsoft. The game will probably sell well over 2 million copies on Xbox one when all is said and done and the imminent release on PC will boost sales for the franchises. The few vocal meaningless minority posting on thread saying they will boycott this game on PS4 won't matter when this game release next year on PS4 to a massive install base of well over 50 million and sells millions on that console.

Is Aaron Greenburg, the king of hot air, blustery hoo-blah, and hyperbole, trustworthy on this? Is he the only source on the matter of sold through vs shipped? I'll hold off judgement on sales until a different creature has lurched forth from the darkness to make a proclamation.

He can't just lie. Yes, he's an asshole, but he's never actually lied.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

The platform with 6 times more gamers? Of course it'd sell more. DO NOT COMPARE CURRENT TO LAST GEN GAME SALES. Just don't.
