AMAZING collection!!!!! Wauw.
I'm about 45 or so shy of a complete library. Most of what I don't have are 2016s sports games and a bunch of variant "deluxe" and "goty" and "complete edition" re-releases and some shovelware like Snoopy and Hasbro Family Fun Pack.
Gotta leave myself some room for clearance deals. At one point I was actually caught up and sad when there was some big sale and I already had every possible game. I've gotta pick up a few still like Darksiders II, Divinity, Starwars, Deadpool, Earth Defense Force 4.1, etc but the rest that I'm missing is monthly release crap I'll pick up in the $9.99 bin before this summer.
I have a spreadsheet of games that I have, games that are available in physical form that I don't have yet, and a list of upcoming games and their release dates, along with one's I already have preordered and if there is a CE or not. About once a week or so, I go over the games that came out and move them to the "available" or "have" sections and so on. I really only only sit on the common stuff that I know I can get later, I'll preorder anything I want to play day one, esp JRPGs or stuff like Metal Gear or Fallout CEs. But oddly I'm especially paying more attention lately to the unannounced physical releases of indy games that could possible be extremely hard to find later.
I did forget to include the Skylanders Dark stuff but oh whole who cares about those.
And yes I do play them lol FF XIV set me back a year on actually playing anything.
Most recently it's been Metal Gear Solid V, to Tales of Zestiria, to Fallout 4, and currently Xenoblade Chronicles X. Then whatever I can sneak in before The Division owns me by the balls. And I like to 100% JRPGs and stuff so.... ugh...

Awesome! yea i need to learn to not buy everything at release, waiting a couple of months and you can buy 2 games for the same amount.
Sadly, my PS4 physical collection is pretty small, amounting to only 19 games atm. My digital collection is around 100-110 games, though, some of which are digital only and a few games I couldn't help since I got review copies of them (Disgaea 5 is one). I've been saving some money for other things, so I only allocate so much money towards games.
| Hiku said: Well I wont get into the debate about dreams and reality, but I do have a similar sentiment to the OP regarding physical copies of games when it comes to the point of view of a collection. It's nothing extravagant. But for some reason it speaks to me. I've had it on display on one of my shelves for 15 years now. And every time I glance over at it, it brings back a little bit of the feeling I had when I played the game as a kid, and the memories I have associated with it. Including the store I went to to buy the game, the snowstorm outside, and how much of a hurry I was in to get home in order to play it. And seeing it there, knowing that there's a physical copy inside still in mint condition, I like that. And now 15 years later, I have a copy of the 3DS remake sitting next to it. |
I can sort of agree to some extent, I used to be a guy who only bought physical copies and only loved physical (I too as even there touting my distaste for digital only gaming and how expensive it was at the time) but over the years things became more convenient for me, prices were cheaper and of course on my platform of pref I mod my games so modding a disk isn't really an option for me, especially since the game is then installed and I have no need to use said disk until I use a new rig.
There was also a time where I had my physical boxes all nicely lined up but after years and years the collections started gathering dust, getting scuffed from re-arranging my room/moving places and eventually I reached a point a few times where I was down on my luck with money and had to pawn off my physical games/dvd's, of course I had attachments to them but I also have really big attachments to all my pets, my cat died last Nov and I was devastated that I had to have him put down and had to bury him that same day, the fact that he's physically gone still upsets me but I know at the end of the day that physically I'll have to sell what I have, lose it or give it to someone else, in the case of my cat well he had to be buried like all people/pets since I'm not the type who wants to stuff him and place him atop my shelf for all to see (some people really go that far but I won't judge).
As for my games, the majority of them are digital and I always do reminisce about fond memories I've had of games I once played/still play simply by looking at trailers, cutscenes, listening to their OST's or simply seeing the Steam game banners, I don't really function in a way where I need to touch an object to know about it or get fond memories rushing back, I get those sorts of memories all the time, hell I still can't believe it;s been 4, nearly 5 years since I played Skyrim on my 360 followed by the early days of Google+ beta, sure I can't touch any of that but I;m happy enough to contain said memories and talk about them with friends, even while playing old games with friends do I get the fondest of memories, I managed to recently find a site that allowed me and a mate of mine to play C&C Red Alert 3, Kane's Wrath, Generals, Generals ZH, C&C 3 etc online once more with hundreds of other folk (EA/Gamespy cut their support years ago) and just sitting in the lobby of a game that's supposed to have dead online brings back so many memories and all this is digital.
I think if anything my external drive is probably the most important physical object to me since it contains a good portion of my games, all my photos I've taken over the years, wallpapers, music and the like that also spark memories of times long passed and for me I don't really need to touch any of those to get the nostalgic feelings, not everyone does mind you since you operate differently from me, I used to be like you as I said before but times change and I changed after a number of years to go from physical gaming to an all digital one.

Ah, no I understand and agree with your completely. The fond memories I have of playing games are actually rarely associated to me owning the physical copy. That is more of something extra on the side. With some few exceptions. For example, I remember my first day playing Zelda Ocarina of Time as one big event, from the clerk telling me that the shipment hasn't come in yet, and asking me to come back later, and when I came back an hour later, he told me the same thing. I went and read some gaming magazines in stores while waiting. Reviews were out and it got nothing but 99's and 100's. I went back, he told me the same thing. After a while, I finally got it, and rushed home. Looked at my pre order bonus (golden Zelda pin) and the back of the box on the way back in the train. And when I got home, I finally opened the game and checked out the manual. (Manuals were a thing back then.) And once I got to play it for myself, I think that's also my most memorable gaming moment with the game. So if I lost the box and the physical copy, it would be liek losing a bit of that experience in a way. I also play Skyrim on PC because of mods. And I guess luckily for me, in that case I didn't mind not having the game in my physical collction, so it works out. |
Wauw,them discussion,
cant beat that! im glad you got the witcher 3 and the expansion!

It was a tumor between his stomach and lungs along with liquid intake nearing his lungs where it shouldn't be which over a month's period (could have been longer) caused his health to deteriorate and he lost weight pretty fast in that time, eventually he reached a point where he ate any sort of food and puked it up moments later which drove him to a point where he wanted food from you regardless of him puking it up. We had him checked and the scans showed the tumor, unfortunately he was 9 and in a not so great shape, having an operation would have killed him and I didn't really want to have that happen so I decided on the same day of the scans (he was still under after having them) to have him put down since the puking/tumor would have resulted in his death anyway. I dunno why but during that day we took him to the vets I had a weird feeling that he wasn't going to come back so I snapped some photos and gave him the longest hug I don't think I've ever given anyone, I think he knew once he was at the vets that he was going to go so he seemed calm and collect (some animals can smell or sense death with some vets).

Very nice collection... I can't top yours! But I'm pretty happy with mine, which is... something like 18 physical games. :P
Maybe I'll post a pic later.
Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Great collection, man. I can only hope to amass such a collection.
