Forums - Gaming - Now that Minecraft has done amazing on the Wii U for Microsoft, will they and other companies start porting more exclusives over to other systems?

A form of Mario Maker on ios would sell trillions!

You mean it would be downloaded for free by millions.

The average consumer isn;t going to pay for a game.

Sure, nobody is going to pay for an iOS game. The billions of $ revenue of the AppStore each quarter are all lies.

If Square Enix can sell its games on iOS and Android for $8 to $20 and Telltale Games can sell their seasons for the same prices as on consoles/PC, Nintendo should also be able to be successful with "premium priced" apps.

The Minecraft: Pocket Edition is also a premium priced app and sold over 30 million units. But keep on downplaying mobile gaming, ignorance is bliss.

Ah no wii u owners wouldn't buy Halo 5 or Bloodbourne, Minecraft is as casual as it gets, tis why its successful on Wii U.

It's cute that people still buy into this whole "casual vs hardcore" marketing gimmick about Nintendo.

Especially when Xenoblade X is doing as well as it is.

True: if we look at Wii U Top 20, we can clearly see what's the selling factor, and it's not the casual vs hardcore stuff.

Microsoft should just buy Nintendo. End of story.

Nintendo makes games for Xbox One, Windows Phone and Windows 10... Let Microsoft build the network (XBL) for it and let bigger Nintendo games (Zelda, Metroid, maybe even Pokémon) run on a more powerful machine.

Awesomeness achieved.

I dont think you understand how bussiness works do you??

Actually I can see lots of benefits for consumers and both companies.

Let's face it, Nintendo is fighting to survive these days. Wii U bombed and handhelds are on their way out thanks to smartphones.

A joint-venture with Microsoft would be awesome. MS covers the huge costs for R&D and build (finally) a powerful console for Nintendo again. MS builds the online infrastructure (Xbox Live) so that Nintendo can (finally) make their online gaming fun. Nintendo concentrates on what they can do best: Build games.

MS gets the benefit that they finally get a userbase in Japan and a better position in Europe outside of UK and Scandinavia.

Nintendo is making money even with Wii U, and now they will launch mobile games, completely new NX platform and they start to aggressively use their IPs. Nintendo can cover the costs for R&D and build powerful console itself, if they want. DeNA is making now online Infracstructure for Nintendo. Nintendo online gaming is very fun currently, Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Splatoon all works without any problems and they are very fun. Nintendo is always concentrates on what they can do best, building games.

Gaming division don't earn much money for Microsoft, I am not sure that they at end of day from first Xbox till today they have made profit at all, on other hand they would need to pay 10 of billions of dollars for Nintendo and not knowing at all if that will change anything. If MS really thinks that buying Nintendo would be good move for them, they would buy them long ago, but also I dont think that Nintendo is for sale at all. :)

the last 'powerful' console from Nintendo released 2001 I guess (GCN).

Let's be real here: When it comes to hardware, Nintendo is 5-7 years behind. Their online infrastructure is nowhere near XBL and they have to catch up at least 5 years here as well. Look how long it took Sony to get PSN where XBL was.

NX is nothing but a buzzword right now. We have to wait how this turns out. So far, every Nintendo console sold less than the one before since 1991, except the Wii, which turned out to be a fad for a few years.

I am not hating on Nintendo, I loved my consoles and they are one of the very few developers from Japan I really care about, but they are stuck in the past and poorly managed. MS / Nintendo cooperation would be best for them, MS and gamers.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Last perforfule console was in 2001 because Nintendo choosed like that not beacuse they cant make one, they can make again very easily powerful console if they want, but they dont want, they dont want to compete with Sony and MS head to head, with NX they again want make some new type of Wii. I already said that DeNA is now working on better Nintendo online infrastructure.

Yes we dont know, maybe NX will be another Wii or maybe NX will sell less than Wii U (both things are very unrealistic).

Nintendo poorly managed only Wii U but that doesnt mean they will manage poorly NX also, Wii was great console for purpose that had, cheap gaming console with new and fun way to play games.

I dont think that would be best for Nintendo or MS at all, but it's not realistic to expect MS will buy big N at all, so there is no point to talk about it..

Minecraft as it is was bought to make money out of it. Microsoft shoudl change it to something new and keep selling it to make profit. Liek if Nintnedo buys Sega keep exclusivity of SOnic for a year but then port it elsewhere.
Nintendo will still be nintendo and Sega will still be multiplatform.

I wouldn't mind a partnership. It would be good for both parties, but I think the bottom line is Nintendo is very sensitive about having full control, and MS would have to be willing to cede a lot of their control to Nintendo. Bottom line is though IMO Microsoft doesn't need the game business, Nintendo obviously does.

MS should put their support behind NX and assist with online, in exchange Nintendo agrees to use Windows OS for NX (home and portable) and help MS with maybe some Nintendo ports for their Windows Games PC service (to combat Steam). That would be a good arrangement I think.

But Nintendo is so Japan-centric and paranoid that it probably would never happen.

Im not sure about the initial sales, but right now Xenoblade X is at #242 on the Amazon Top Seller List. I dont believe the game is doing "well" right now.

Also, i agree with Versus_Evil in the sense that Nintendo fans tend to like more the "E Rated" style of most Nintendo games. Look at the Top 10 of Amazon:

1) Super Mario Maker (Rated E)

2) Super Smash Bros (Rated E)

3) Just Dance 2016 (Rated E)

4) Mario Kart 8 (Rated E)

5) Yoshis Wooly World (Rated E)

6) Amiibo Festival (Rated E)

7) Lego Dimension (Rated E)

8) Super Mario 3D World (Rated E)

9) Splatoon (Rated E)

10) Xenoblade X (Rated T)

There is no place for Bloodborne/Halo 5 type of games on Nintendo systems.

Just like there was no place for Perfect Dark, Bayonetta 2, Metroid Prime, RE4, House of the Dead, etc, am I right guys :D? Anyone? ... anyone?

Surely MS skills on online services would be good for Ninty, but Ninty couldn't accept MS control on the OS, on PC it gave MS too much power, and if it didn't on phones and tablets too it's just because competitors are stronger. For Ninty, to keep control, it would be better a partnership with a company very skilled online, but that isn't a competitor in the console market. Surely the current situation shows that Ninty prudent approach to avoid at all costs bloating the company forces it to run first-party network services that are inferior to its competitors, and it's not only about resources, being almost exclusively a gaming company unavoidably limits Ninty experience in other online services that competitors started offering on their consoles already during last gen.
