1-I make so that the NX releases ASAP (with a 6 month previous announement) with the highest specs possible for a 300/400$ device;
2-I close 50 people in a room for one day telling them that the one that'll give me the best name for a console non-related to "Wii" will win 10000$;
3-I tell to the Zelda development team that I want Zelad U to be released on Wii U ONE MONTH before the NX and that I want a port with some improvements on the day of the release of the NX, also who owns a copy of Zelda U on Wii U and registers it on the new account system can download a digital version of Zelda U on NX for a cheaper price, exclusively for the 5 months following the NX launch for 30$, later on for 50$;
4-I tell the 3D Mario developmnet team that I want a full 3D Mario game on the launch date of NX, if possible it should be Galaxy 3, if not then they'll have to develop Galaxy 3 for the 4th year of life of the NX;
5-I give some $$$ at Retro and make so that they split into 2 or more development teams, one of which has to start developing Metroid Prime 4 for either the 2nd or the 3rd year of NX;
6-I tell Next Level Games to leave Federation Force and to start now a 2D Metroid game that'll be released in the 2nd year of life of the NX;
7-I contact the developers of Rocket League and ask them to work on a full on shooting/sports game using as the basis what was made of Federation Force until now but with the name: "Shooter League";
8-I acquire the Bayonetta IP from Platinum Games signing a contract that states that they'll always have a part in the development of the games for the Bayonetta series until their company can afford to do so;
9- I give development kits to Ubisoft, EA, Activision, Bethesda and Rockstar Games asking either to make on par games with those on the other consoles or simply to make their games exclusive for other platforms;
10-I give Ubisoft funds to make Red Steel 3 an NX exclusive;
11-I give Activision funds to make a StarTropics sequel in co-development with Nintendo and Mr. Takeda;
12-I give EA funds to make a new Mario Strikers game in co-development with Nintendo;
13-change on my first day at Nintendo the youtube policies of the company, I also make shure to send an apology letter to most of the YouTubers that argued against the crazy previous polices such as PewDiePie and AngryJoe;
14-I try to buy Capcom or at least Megaman;
15- I make shure DeNA publishes a mobile Mario game and an AC game, both free to play and both with in-game purchases;
16-I ask HAL Laboratory to work on a 3D Platformer for Kirby while also working on Smash 5 in collaboration with Bandai Namco;
17-I ask Koei Tecmo to co-develop with Intelligent Systems on a brand new FE game in the key of the Dynasty Warriors games;
18- I buy Sin'en, give them a lot fo money and make them the first European Nintendo development team, from now on they'll have to work on the F-Zero games;
19-After a few years I try to buy Sonic/SEGA

Releasing the NX within a short six month time frame would be next to impossible at this point.

I think the NX is the best possible name for the new Nintendo system. Like other people said, they need to market to 90's nostolgia. This name helps with that. X-men, X-Files, Gen X, eXtreme, etc. They need to keep that name for sure. If they went with Soundwave's idea of multiple SKUs, then they could call the different models NX1 NX2 and NX3. *Superscript isn't working. Basically, 1, 2, and 3, would be exponents, and not normal sized numbers.

I think the rest of your plans, involves demanding unreasonable things from your dev teams. A lot of work goes into making a good video game. If you want that many games, that quickly, while splitting dev teams, all you are going to do is create a death march, for your developers. Nobody likes working twelve hour shifts, for months at a time, even if it is for a video game.

Imho it's really plausible to release it within 6 months with an E3 announcement...

NX is shurely a good name but since Nintendo ALWAYS changed their codenames they'll have to find another one

I don't see where I asked unreasonable things from the dev teams: I only split the Retro one and gave all of them reasonable ammounts of time, plus I'd provide them more funds so that they can hire additional devs to deliver the listed games in the requested timeframes...

Retro has about 100 employees and has been reported seeking more in recent years. How much do you think do they need to hire to get 2 development teams within that time span you suggested? Plus, do you really think they want to develop another Prime game? From what I've heard, they wanted to develop Tropical Freeze (same thing with Returns), even though consumers didn't want them to. For morale purposes, I would let them choose to do whatever they want to do and not just ask them to do Prime 4 and it seems like it will go that way according to rumors about their current project.

Also, I disagree with Next Level Games dropping Federation Force. I would want them to continue that project while doing something else (whether its 2D Metroid or not). Tanabe really wanted to work on this project so just dropping it would not bold well in terms of morale. Sure, its not what fans wanted, but if the producer really wants to do this and there are no fundamental problems in development, I would wait it out to see how the full game develops. They can work on 2D Metroid later on, but for now, FF should at least be completed.

Fun fact: Next Level Games decided to develop this game on 3DS instead on Wii U because they were familiar with the system (Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon).

There are development teams that are a lot smaller than 100 employees, heck, there are development teams that have less than 10 members and still manage to make amazing games: look at Shin'en and Fast Racing NEO, the game was made in about 3 years by 4/5 people ! Plus, do you realize that since the last Metroid Prime game we got most of the staff at Retro changed ? In the end they are a skilled development team, they own the assets from the previous games in the series and they would be higly funded.

Do you really think that Metroid Prime: Federation Force is what Next Level Games wants to do ? after seeing the sneak peaks of the new Metroid game they were making before Dark Moon ? I think it's 100% shure that they were forced to do this game and looking at their media blackout after E3 I feel like they really don't want to do this game. I didn't even mention the Wii U so I don't know what you're trying to demonstrate...

I really don't get why you're criticizing so much my decisions, in the end the thread is about what we would do in an unrealistic world where we are the head of Nintendo right now, I didn't say I would treat the developers as slaves or that I would force them to make games (notice how I always say "ask X to develop")...

Let retro studios and monolith soft work together on a full scale new first Person metroid game

1) Start buying up great studios from all over the world (NOT JUST JAPANESE!).  Sony did this last gen and it has future-proofed Playstation FOREVER!  No matter what happens to the industry people will want games, and Sony will be able to produce them.

2) Work towards making an online network that rivals PSN.  No need to reinvent the wheel, just take PSN and improve anything that seems obvious.  This will take time, but it is long overdue.

3) Make a STANDARD console that can just be launched and sell 30m.  I would aim for a late 2016 launch with a Puma+/Greenland AMD APU on the 14nm node.  Something with 8GB of GDDR5X and something close to a 390/460 X in power.  Sell it for $300 with Zelda, SSB, 3D Mario, and AT LEAST 1 mature exclusive.

4) At E3 2016, besides showing the obvious; I would make a point to showcase several mature AAA exclusives in the pipeline.

5) Make a gaming-android Nintendo tablet.  This would be the Successor to the 3DS for $300 and have a way as working like the Wii U gamepad when hooked up to the NX.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

Dear God, no. A tablet with the Nintendo name is the worst idea ever. A good handheld costs $100-$200, and actually has buttons. $300 for a handheld is way too expensive. Going the powerful tablet route is a disaster waiting to happen. The Vita failed hard because it tried to do console level graphics. The Wii U failed almost as hard because it tried to add tablet gaming features to a console. Combining the two is a recipe for failure.

Handheld market is in trouble either way. Obviously any Nintendo portable in any form factor is going to have buttons.

I actually agree with the poster that going upmarket is better for dedicated portables. Now that cheap-o Android tablets are showing up for $50-$100, you can't beat them on price for cheap-o parents and kids. Especially with free games on top of that. It's not a fair fight.

Your better bet is to go upmarket and emphasize WHY dedicated portables have far better games. I wouldn't go quite to $300 though. I think they could have a very, very powerful handheld for $219 or $229 if they're willing to sell it at/near cost.

Right now FAR MORE people are buying $200-$600 tablets for their kids than they are handhelds.  If Nintendo made a durable tablet with a ton of great exclusives I see no reason they couldn't make fistfulls of cash.  Let's wait and see I suppose - after all I feel  the handheld market will continue to shrink by large margins every generation and so this is their only real option.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]

First thing I'd do is fire aka reshuffle/retire all people to do with the design and development of the Wii and Wii U, a lot of people say Wii was good for Nintendo but it all but destroyed them in the eyes of their true target consumer as casuals will never buy Nintendo devices again post smartphones.

Second thing I'd do is ban Miyamoto from interfering in other peoples games, he ruined Paper Mario's sequels post Thousand Year Door doing that and damaged DKCR on the Wii by forcing in motion controls, these are only two examples, but he's well known for it.

The third thing I'd do is consider replacing certain people at the treehouse or giving them a severe reprimand after the badly bungled Xenoblade Chronicles X translation.

Part 4? If the NX is another stupid gimmick, scrap it and make a proper console again, not something with no buttons like the horror images that are coming out of the company at the moment with their patents. I'm a die hard Nintendo guy since the SNES and get their machines first, but there's no way in hell I'd invest in that thing.

5. Reverse the youtube policy, it's done nothing but damage as no one is streaming Nintendo games on there except the die hards. The big youtubers aren't selling Nintendo consoles to anyone and a lot won't even put Nintendo games in the top 10 lists as they fear Nintendo claiming the entire video. This is Nintendo's biggest PR backfire of the last 15 years imo.

The final thing I'd do is replace Reggie Fils Aime as he's actively blocked multiple Japanese games from coming out to the West, he would never of released Xenoblade 1 (and didn't release the rather good Disaster: Day of Crisis that Europe got) had people not put the squeeze on him, even Nintendo of Europe bypassed him on several occasions with such things.

I feel as a Nintendo fan, especially after the awful disaster of the Iwata years like Nintendo is a company that seems to punish it's most loyal fans for their mistakes. I hope the new boss corrects that, at least in part.

I would buy capcom.
Buy P*
Create at least 2 more studios to help making more games.
New IP's, at least one every year.
Revive old ips that are fan-favourites.
Focus on different specs for the consoles. Cheap version and strong version.
Animal Crossing for NX
An amiibo game like skylanders.
More amiibo, but lower the price to 9.99€ and make them a little bit bigger like 15% more
More VC games.
Bayonetta 3
Xenoblade Chronicles X 2&3
I would hire 20% more people to help making Zelda games, so they don't take that long to be made.
Make more rpg's, like 2 or 3 every year
Give more budget to Fatal Frame team so they can make better games.
Make great mobile games that doesn't cannibalize on the console games, but wouldn't be scared to use some ideas that would be great for mobile, such as an animal crossing lite game, wario ware game, rythm game etc.
And my biggest wish as a president:
Remaster Secret of Evermore and Terranigma for NX and then retire because that would got me fired anyway xD

15- I make shure DeNA publishes a mobile Mario game and an AC game, both free to play and both with in-game purchases;
16-I ask HAL Laboratory to work on a 3D Platformer for Kirby while also working on Smash 5 in collaboration with Bandai Namco;
17-I ask Koei Tecmo to co-develop with Intelligent Systems on a brand new FE game in the key of the Dynasty Warriors games;
18- I buy Sin'en, give them a lot fo money and make them the first European Nintendo development team, from now on they'll have to work on the F-Zero games;

I just provided the fun fact just because. No particular reason.

I don't exactly know if NLG wants to do FF, but I know Tanabe does. We don't exactly know NLG's stance on this game unless I've missed something in past interviews about this game.

I only criticized two points from your post. I'm just providing my thoughts about it. It's part of discussion. If I sound like I'm harsh or something, then I apologize. I'm not trying to say that you're treating developers like slaves. Maybe I shouldn't have added the word morale...My mistake.
